Instructions for Substitute:
Students will be working independently to complete the “Student Data Sheet”. Each student will receive
a packet of articles which they will use to create “I2 charts” for, which they will then use to populate the
data sheet.
If students “do not remember what an I2 chart is”, it is the following chart:
It may be beneficial to draw this table on the board at the start of class if there is a marker available.
Students must draw one chart for each article, and they must turn in their charts along with their data
sheets. At the end of class, each student will turn in a data sheet and their I2 charts.
All article packets should be collected at the end of class to use for other class periods. There are 35
packets included in case some are lost. Please ask students not to write in the packets.
Thank you!

Directions: Create an I2 chart (identify and interpret) for each article. Each chart should include at least 3
pieces of evidence that could potentially be used to answer the question that follows. Once all I2 charts
are completed, create a claim to answer the question and select four strong pieces of evidence from the
articles to support your claim. I2 charts should be completed on a separate sheet of paper which should
be stapled to and turned in with this data sheet. Work should be done independently.
Do not write on the articles provided and make sure they are returned at the end of the class.

question that follows. Once all I2 charts are completed, create a claim to answer the question and select
four strong pieces of evidence from the experiments to support your claim. These pieces of evidence
