Over the years I’ve realized my approach to finding unique and niche alternative strategies & managers has resonated WELL with my fellow allocators. There were instances where I would allocate to a manager and subsequently, through word of mouth within my trusted network, follow-on allocations occurred. This reached a point where managers began asking me if I would be willing to help them raise additional capital. I was initially RELUCTANT because this was not my primary goal. My PRIMARY goal has been and always will be to find unique and interesting ways to make money for my clients. However I was intrigued by the concept of providing a boost to my Managers, and it also tied in well with my burgeoning interest in the potential of leveraging Social Media for Outreach. Thus I began showcasing ‘my’ managers on a PODCAST called, “CIOs and Bowties” which quickly led to interviewing managers via WEBINAR in what I dubbed as “Looking over the managers shoulder.” I should point out I was doing this for NO CHARGE but merely as a way to ‘get the story out’ on what I considered were great opportunities for my fellow allocators. What started as a hobby out of personal interest soon took on a life of its own. The positive response to my podcasts and webinars has been over-whelming and humbling. Humbling because I never expected it to become this popular and successful, and over-whelming because it is now consuming more and more of my time. A victim of my own success, today the podcasts and webinars have over 6,800 YouTube subscribers, 43,000 LinkedIn followers, and 100,000 email subscribers. I’ve enjoyed the journey and gained immense learning from it. I’ve also reached a point where I feel it is now the right time to explore ways in which I could take it to the next level and make it a successful commercial undertaking. This will only be possible if and ONLY IF I could secure HIGH QUALITY PARTNERS to provide distribution media for my managers beyond my own large and highly selected network.
