“Monday Model Madness” Every Monday for the rest of this semester will be our “Monday Model Madness” day. Physics does not only involve calculations, but it is also relates to how things work in the world around us. You will create a tangible model that can be used to model the PHYSICS involved in the topic you select. You will then use your model in a presentation to the class to explain the physics behind your topic. You will sign up for the date of your presentation and the topic you will be modeling. You must pick a topic from the list (each topic can only be chosen once) or you may choose your own related topic (ONLY with teacher approval). This assignment will count as one of your major communication and inquiry marks in the course. Presentation · · · Model · · You must fully explain your topic in less that 5 minutes (most notably the physics behind your topic) and your model must be an integral part of this explanation. If Monday is a test day, then your presentation will be on Tuesday. You must present at the start of the period. Marks will be deducted if you are late. The model must be 3-dimensional so it can be displayed in our classroom. Your model must illustrate or explain your topic EVEN IF YOU WERE NOT THERE TO EXPLAIN IT (i.e. it must be a self-contained “teaching tool”). As such, your model will require some sort of written display or supplement. This can be in the form of a small poster or display board, a series of cue cards, or any other medium that you come up with. You can choose to communicate in dot jots, full paragraph form, or even a large diagram with detailed labels – it’s up to you! The key is that your model and the written supplement must be ONE UNIT. Evaluation · You will be evaluated according to the following criteria: Student Name: ________________________________ Topic: __________________ Presentation & Model L4 L3 L2 L1 R MARK Presentation is clear, concise, and appropriate in length: Physics behind your topic is fully explained: You understand the material so you do not have to read: Voice is clear, projected well, and engaging: 3 references are included with your model: Model is an integral part of explaining physics concepts: Model is neat, attractive, and well constructed: Model is original, unique and creative: Model is 3-dimensional (no larger than 50cmx50cmx50cm) and can be displayed as one unit (includes written supplement): Written supplement provides a concise, clear, and complete explanation of physics concepts: 10
