The role of the woman of the family has changed drastically over the last few centuries
and particularly through the last decade. In present times, women in the family are now more
independent, meaning they do not absolutely rely on their husbands for a good life. This
independence has also correlated with women in the family gaining more freedoms. Contrary to
the past, women are now more in the workforce and have a career on top of typical housework
and childcare.
Another big change about women in the family is that women now have more power in
the family compared to before; it used to be just the man making all the decisions. Before,
women did not make any of the big decisions in the household and finances were often left to the
husband. Since women are now more in the workforce and can earn an income, they now have
more power in the household and play in part in making decisions for the family and for the
finances of the family.
Domestic housework and childcare has also changed over the centuries due to the change
in the role of the women. The idea that women are working now translate to women having less
time in order to complete housework or care for children. Even though women are still
responsible for childcare and household tasks, they now have less time so the man in the family
is now starting to also help the wife.
The role of the woman mainly changed due to the increase in feminism and women's
rights. As women became more aware of their rights and laws changed so that they could work
easier, women are now more inclined to join the workforce. Companies and universities are now
more open to accept women and even are inclined to give positive bias to women who apply.
The role of women’s rights and feminism have given more opportunities for women to join the
workforce which has changed the role of women in the family.
This change in the role of women is considered very good in the families. Society should
no longer treat women as solely caretakers or individuals that just care for the house. It is
important that women are now more independent and have more power in the household. They
can join the workforce, earn an income for the family, and be free. Women aren’t robots that just
complete housework, they are people too who can provide and make decisions in the family.
In conclusion, the main reasons for the major change in the role of women in the family
is because of the feminist movement that has given more rights to women and have opened their
eyes to oppourtinties in the workforce. The feminist movement has allowed women to work
meaning they have less time to carry out house tasks or to just solely care for their children. This
makes housework and childcare now more of a job that requires assistance from both the man
and the woman. Women are now earning an income so that means men are no longer the only
breadwinners in society; this gives them more influence in decisions in the household.
