Science in the News Assignment
Task: Find a recent science news article, write a summary, and present it to the class. You may use the
internet (example: https://www.sciencenews.org/ ), newspapers, or magazines.
In your summary, make sure you include the answers to the following questions.



Who cares? Why is the information in the article important to the world, you, and the class?
o Maybe the article has some special meaning to our science class.
o Maybe it has to do with something we’re learning at the time.
o Maybe it means something special to you (your favorite science topic).
What is the science topic in the article?
What type of science is it?
o Chemistry
o Physics
o Earth Science
o Astronomy
Requirements:
1. Your article summary needs to include a heading. The heading should include the following:
a. TITLE OF THE ARTICLE
b. SOURCE: WHERE YOU FOUND IT
c. YOUR NAME
d. DATE
2. Your article summary needs to be at least a ¾ of a page handwritten or 1 page double-spaced.
3. If you have found your article online, you must include the website address in your assignment.
4. If you have found your article in a magazine or newspaper, I would like the article, or a copy of
the article attached to your summary (ask me early and I will make you a copy).
