LESSON PLAN SUBJECT: Information Technology TOPIC: Fundamentals of Hardware and Software TOTAL DURATION OF LESSON: 90 minutes DATE : September 3-20, 2019 DAYS: Tuesday GRADE: 8 Forgiveness SUB-TOPIC: Introduction to Computers TEACHER: Warvin Gordon ATTAINMENT TARGET: The lesson will seek to introduce students to the computer. They will be provided with the general concept of the functions of a computer and its devices. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: Students should be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Explain what is a computer Define the term computer system State the four functions of a computer Explain the four functions of a computer PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES Teacher will ensure that learning environment is ready for lesson delivery. INTRODUCTION Teacher will stimulate lesson by asking students about some the computer games and simulations which are most popular today. Students and teacher will discuss the reason for the popularity to most games as it relates to their features. From this, teacher will introduce the concept of the computer system. DEVELOPMENT Step 1 Explanation and discussion of the associated terms 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Teacher will explain to students the concept of electronic devices. Teacher and students will discuss advantages and drawbacks of using computers. Teacher will ask students relevant questions related to content delivered. Students will be allowed to ask questions related to lesson begin delivered. Teacher will clarify any problem areas. Step 2 1. Teacher will explain, read and answer questions then allow students to take written notes on specific concepts. Step 3 1. Teacher will ask students to complete class activities. TEACHING METHOD: Questioning – Students will be asked 1. What do they think a computer is? 2. To name or give examples of computer devices they have seen before. Teacher will assist to clarify students’ answers. Explanation – Defining key terms Input Output Processing Storing CONTENT OUTLINE: A. Input Device This accepts data (used to send or enter data into the computer system). B. C. Output Device This provide information (receives an electrical signal and produces data or information). Storage Device This stores data (device that makes the storing of data possible). D. Processing Device This process data (manipulation of data in a variety of ways applying rules of arithmetic and logic) E. Description of a computer / Description of a computer system A computer is an electric device, which executes instruction, manipulates and converts data into information, and then stores the information in the requested location… A computer system is the combination of hardware and software. F. Function of the computer Input Output Processing Storing G. Categories of computer hardware Central Processing Unit Input Devices Output Devices Storage Devices (Primary and Backing storage) ENGAGEMENT/INTRODUCTION Teacher will ask student what the understand by the term computer, Student will give their answer base on what they understand. Teach will ask student to give an example of some computers that they use frequently, students will give response base on devices that they use and home and school. Teacher will how many functions a computer has, can you list any, Student will give their response of how many functions a computer has and the y will then list some examples. EXPLORATION Students will individually answer the following questions; What is a computer? What are some of the things you can use a computer to do? What is input? Can you give me an example of device(s) you use to input data in the computer What is output Can you give me an example of device(s) you use to output information from the computer What is Storage? What are some devices you can store(put thing on)? What is Processing? EXPLANATION The Teacher will give formal definition of what is a computer, the teacher will explain the functions of computer and will define each functions and give examples to students. ELABORATE Students will be given individual activities An individual activity will be given to students to test their knowledge and understanding of the lesson, student will also be given an activity to see if the can initiate the computer system, activities will be given to test students’ knowledge . EVALUATION All students were assessed based on their knowledge to identify and explain the functions of a compute. : Ask individual student questions Give student individual activities. Give student home work on lesson. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS Information Technology for CSEC by Kalvin Skeete and Kyle Steete Oxford Information Technology for CSEC by Glenda Gay and Ronald Blades Visual Aids – hardware from computer system Whiteboard: to write or project notes - for theory and assignments EVALUATION 8(f) Forgiveness 1. How was the responsiveness of the students? 90% of the students were receptive of the lesson , they demonstrated eagerness share their input once I started asking questions. while 10% took a while to fully understand the objective 2. How do I feel about the lesson? During the lesson students were asked questions based on what they have encountered or person they know that encounter what the lesson was about, at first the students wasn't interactive, It took a while for the students to start take part by giving me situation which they were inolved in. As a result, the lesson did not start as it was expected to.. . 3. What other factors (environmental, social, human) impacted the lesson delivery? The students means seemed to be elsewhere, they seem distracted The students arrival for class, some students didn't arrive on the time allotted for class to start. 4. What improvement can be made? Consider my individual student and their needs. Consider not just the individual lesson but the knowledge the students should gain Changes may be necessary in the best of lesson plans. How do you rate the overall teaching and learning experience? Key: Unsatisfactory Satisfactory Good √ Excellent
