NARRATIVE REPORT
Earthquake is one of the critical disasters which can caused fatal injuries or worst, death
toll. It cannot be detected the time and the place it would strike, it happens in the place where
people are just hanging around and working. Earthquake is a natural phenomenon caused by
either the constant movements of the earth’s crustal plates or due to climate change.
In this connection, the Bancal National High School has conducted the National
Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on June 20, 2019 at 3:00 o’ clock in the afternoon. This was also
affirmed by the virtue of the DepEd Order No. 48, Series of 2012, this DepEd Memorandum
stated that all public and private schools and DepEd offices should undertake a Quarterly
National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. Before the drill, Mr. Remy A. Alib, DRRM
Coordinator conducted an orientation last Wednesday June 19, 2019 for junior and senior high
school students to be familiarize with the drop, cover, and hold moreover, he reminded them to
be calm and don’t panic. The drill started with the ceremonial pressing of the button where the
students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 together with their teachers followed religiously the three
important things to do during an earthquake. These were the Dropping, Covering and Holding, at
the same time watching out for falling objects, and keeping calm and avoiding panic.
Mr. Sherwin Bering, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer
(MDRRMO) undertook an orientation to the key persons before the actual Drill. He disseminated
the information about the occurrence of earthquake as well as the needs to carry out a drill to
enhance the students’ awareness on the safety measures before, during and after the said disaster.
He made-mentioned of the guidelines for the drills and also pointed out the possible evacuation
area in the school. This orientation made possible the drill to become successful with 100%
students and teachers’ participation.
Furthermore, this activity intensified the students’ preparedness and highlighted their
awareness regarding disaster risk reduction whenever the incident occurs. On the other hand, this
strengthened the teachers and the schools management during emergencies especially earthquake
occurrences.
