1) A toy car (4 kg) is initially moving with a velocity of 2.0 m/s when it collides with a 6 kg toy truck
initially moving at 4.0 m/s. After the collision the toy truck has a velocity of 0.8 m/s. What is the
velocity of the car?
2) A 15 kg medicine ball is thrown at a velocity of 5.5 m/s to a 60 kg person who is at rest on the
ice. The person catches the ball and they begin sliding across the ice. Determine the velocity of
the person/ball combination after the collision.
3) A trolley of mass 4kg moving at 10 m/s collides with a 2kg trolley moving in the same direction
at a velocity of 4m/s. they separate after the collision and the 4 kg trolley slows to 7m/s. What is
the final speed of the other trolley? (hint draw diagrams of momentum before and after.)
4) A trolley A of mass kg is travelling at 2m/s towards another trolley B of mass 4kg which is
travelling towards it at a velocity of 3m/s. On collision they stick together. What is their final
combined velocity and in which direction do they travel together? (care with negatives)
5) A 1000 kg car traveling at 10 m/s to the south collides with a 3300 kg truck that is initially at rest
at a stoplight. The car and truck stick together and move together after the collision. What is
the final velocity of the two vehicle mass
6) A 275 kg bumper car containing one rider is traveling at 3.2 m/s when it bumps a stationary car
containing 2 riders (345 kg). The 275 kg car bounces back with a speed of 1.7 m/s. What is the
speed and direction of the 345 kg car?
7) A 1000kg bus moving 10m/s and 500kg car moving at 20m/s (opposite direction) collided each
other. If we consider this collision perfectly inelastic what is the speed and the direction of the
cars after the collision.
