Authentic Text around Us Authentic Texts are print, audio, and visual documents created and used by native speakers. Examples include books, websites, articles, artworks, films, folktales, music, advertisements, videos, posters. news, song, food and commercials. Authentic reading materials include published works that are typically encountered by students in daily life, such as in magazines, books, or newspapers. The use of authentic reading materials may mean that some material is emotionally charges or may use language outside of a student’s particular cultural experience. Authentic materials are not created specifically to be used in the classroom, but they make excellent learning tools for students precisely because they are authentic. Examples of authentic print materials include utility bills, packing slips, order forms, ATM receipts, websites, street signs, coupons, greeting card, calendars, repost card, TV guides, food labels, magazines and newspapers.
