CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION OF SIWES(I.T)
For many years industrial and commercial activities existed. However, due to
educational, awareness and improvement. In both education and population,
government decided to establish industrial training fund (I.T.F). The industrial
training fund was established by decree of 8th October, 1970 with. The. Aim of
promotion and encouraging the acquisition of skills in industry and commerce
with a view of generating a pool of indigenous training manpower sufficiently to
meet the need of economy. This fund subsequently introduced training,which is
known as student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES).
1.1DEFINITION OF SIWES (I.T)
Industrial Training: Industrial training is defined as the work experience which is
relevant to professional development prior to graduation. All engineering
program accredited by COUNCIL OF REGISTERED ENGINEERS OF NIGERIA, must
include a requirement of completion of a minimum of four (4) months industrial
training to be met by all student before the Award of National Diploma.
Industrial training must be concurrent with enrollment and normally should be
accumulated during the summer season at the end of the second year.
1.2 PURPOSE OF SIWES
The fundamental purpose of industrial training is to improve student skills,
manpower and technical know-how for employment in their chosen discipline at
the conclusion of their undergraduate studies. Industrial training enhance student
in ability to take responsibility, making sound decision and apply technical skill. In
addition, student can educate companies which they might wish to work or make
decision about the field of engineering to specialize.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF SIWES
Some of the objectives of siwes are as listed below
1. To get exposed to the practical aspect of the theories you have learnt so far.
2. To learn how business organization and companies function or operate.
3. Student observe interaction of engineers with other professional group.
4. To learn working with other engineering professionals.
5. To get exposed to other machines and gain more ideas and skills.
6. Student experience the discipline of working in a professional organization.
7. Prepare student for the work situation they are likely to meet after
graduation.
1.4 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY
Urban shelter limited is a property development corporation with headquarters in
Abuja Nigeria. With over 25 years of experience in integrated property
development and management, the company has been driven to make itself a
household name in the property industry. Urban shelter limited has to its
advantage an immense reserve of resource an experience, which give It the
ability to effectively plan, develop and manage property for individuals, private
organizations, state and federal government establishments while stragically
