PRESENTATION ON CONSTRUCTIONAL LAW PRESENTED BY SANAD ADHIKARI INTRODUCTION •Constructal law is a theory of the generation of design (configurations, patterns, geometry) in nature . It says that flow configuration are not random but they follow law. •It is defined by Adrin bejan in 1996. For a finite system to persist in time (to live), it must evolve in such a way that it provides easier access to the imposed currents that flow through it. •It places the concepts of life , evolution, design and performance in physics, which is in the broadcast scientific arena. The constructional law is physics of life and evolution •The Constructional law accounts for the arrow of time, which is the direction of the evolution of flow organization over time. DESCRIPTION • Everything that moves, weather animate or inanimate, is flow system • Two basic feature of flow system The current that is flowing ( i.e. fluid, heat , mass or information) The design through which it flows • What is flowing ? • Human being are flow system ( blood carries oxygen and food) • In human organization ( good, services, people, information etc flows ) • Every single flow system could be predicted by this law. Figure: Coral forest Figure: Inhale MATHEMATICAL FORMULATION (THERMODYNAMIC SYSTEM) • It was necessary to define new properties of thermodynamic to distinguish it from static system 1. Global external size, L : length scale of body bath by tree flow 2. Global internal size, V : the total volume of the ducts 3. Global measure of performance eg. Flow resistance R 4. Configuration , drawing , architecture and freedom to morph 5. Sveltness derived from L and V, Sv=L/V1/3 • For the system to live on time with constant performance And globalinternal size system should cover progressively larger Territory • But for fixed global size and fixed performance the flow structure Should occupy smaller fraction of available space. APPLICATION Figure : Unidirectional network with fork like • Cooling system structure • It can be seen that element is repeatedly miniaturized as far as possible • Heat transfer efficiency of such channel are much Higher than conventional channels Figure: bidrection network with antenna like structure REFERENCES • 1.http://www.christineforni.com/constructal-law?lightbox=i0xje • 2.http://www.christineforni.com/constructal-law?lightbox=i324n3 • 3.http://www.hydrol-earth-syst-sci.net/11/753/2007/hess-11-7532007.pdf • 4.Micro Process Engineering: A Comprehensive Handbook, Volume 1
