High Voltage Soft Starter is certified by the third party agency, Underwriters Laboratories per UL 347B standard. There are no
IEC product standards to directly cover High Voltage Soft Starter. However some IEC standards have applicable requirements to
High Voltage Soft Starter. UL 347 B test conditions are similar or more stringent than IEC standards. The IEC standards, their
applicability and the table summarizing the tests data are listed below:
IEC 62271-1 Common clauses for high-voltage switchgear and Controlgear, covers specific requirements
for high voltage equipment, dielectric strength, short circuit withstand
IEC 62271-106 High-Voltage alternating current contactors and contactor based starters, covers specific
requirements for high voltage controllers, insulation, short circuit, overcurrent. The main input controller
and bypass circuit are provided with an IEC approved contactor.
IEC 62271-200 AC metal-enclosed Switchgear and Controlgear for rated voltages above 1kV and up to
including 52kV, covers requirements for arc fault. IEEE C37.20.7 Guide of arcing was used in conjunction
to IEC 62271-200 set up.
IEC 60947-4-2 Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 4-2: Contactors and motor-starters - AC
semiconductor motor controllers and starters, covers specific functional requirements for power converter
section of soft starter: soft start/stop, duty cycle, overload operation.
UL 347B Outline of Investigation for Medium Voltage Controllers up to 15kV. Standard used by third party
Underwriters Laboratories for certification.
