Objectives: ● Students will trace the causes of the political upheaval led to U.S. Independence. Assessments / Evidence of Learning: ● SWBAT reflect on their summaries to come up with next steps to make them stronger then use their reflection to summarize their remaining historical documents. Instructional Design and Formative Assessment: Consideration for Unique Learners: Students will have three minutes to write the aim and learning This is a simple routine that Connect / target in their notebooks. allows students to get in the Warm Up: (3 min) social studies mindset. I will read the aim and learning target aloud especially for my SPED and ELL. Mini Lesson: (5 min) I will remind the students that we are creating all these summaries because they are going to write an essay that will explain what they believe were the events that pushed the colonies to fight for their independence from Great Britain. I will explain that students will complete their summaries. They need 3 summaries about the political events leading up to the revolution and 3 summaries on their responses. Guided Practice: (5 min) Class Work: (20 min) I will also explain that students who have completed all 6 summaries should reflect and rewrite their summaries for higher scores. I will then remind students of the summary requirement by reviewing the rubric. CFU: 1. What are we doing today? 2. Why? 3. Any questions? Students will work for 20 minutes to complete their class work. Students work in their heterogeneously assigned group. Groups are based on a combination of reading score, ability to meet social studies standards, and behavioral patterns. While students are completing their classwork, I will be conferencing with students to review already submitted summaries. Close: (5 min) To close, I will explain that students could use stronger and clearer every time to help them write stronger responses.
