Purpose

guide.

SAP Screen Personas Overview
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 provides customers the flexibility to personalize and transform the organizationspecific SAP Dynpro and WebDynpro ABAP screens to suit their business needs. It gives business users and IT
users the ability to meet the need for rapid screen changes, delivering improved user experience and increased
work efficiency.
2.1.1
Personas Admin UI (Dynpro)
The SAP Screen Personas Admin UI is a Dynpro application for administrators of a Personas installation. Its focus
is on mass user management to be able to support large customers.
Note
Customers currently using SAP Screen Personas 1.0 or 2.0 can simply use the Flavor Migration feature to
migrate all the flavors to version 3.0. For more information about Flavor Migration, refer to the SAP
Screen Personas 3.0 Application Help available at help.sap.com/personas.
2.1.2
Personas ABAP Layer
The Personas ABAP Layer is the integration point for the kernel/Basis component. All user interactions triggered
in the Personas client is handled eventually by this component.
2.1.3
Personas Client
After a user starts the SAP GUI for HTML, the Personas Client is initialized. If a user has no authorization to
interact with Personas then no Personas UI components will be available.
2.1.3.1
Runtime
By default, just a Personas button is visible. When this button is pressed, all assigned flavors are listed for the
user. In addition, the currently selected as well as the default flavor are visualized. All users who are authorized to
be in this state can switch flavors or define another flavor as default.

Flavor Management
Depending on the user's authorizations, a user can add or remove flavors from their flavor list. If a user has
authorization to modify an existing flavor, the user can share the flavor with others, delete it or switch into editing
of this flavor.
2.1.3.3
Flavor Editor
When switching into edit-mode, the editing bar is rendered. The editing bar contains of tabs, which include
groups of editing actions. When the Personas Client leaves editing, the updated flavor is sent to the server and
all changes are checked in regards to authorizations.
2.1.3.4
Theme Editor
In contrast to the Flavor Editor, the Theme Editor allows to change visual properties that apply to more than the
currently shown screen. For example, set background colors for all buttons to blue for all transactions. This editmode still allows interacting with the screen so that a user can immediately see the effect of the changes in
different screens/transactions.
2.1.3.5
Templates
Template is the ability to create a common layout across flavors. A reusable template allows you to
drag/drop any fields to form a standard layout across flavors.
2.1.3.6
Scripting Tools
The Scripting Tools allow recording, editing, and previewing / executing / validating scripts attached to a flavor.

2.2
Software Units of SAP Screen Personas 3.0
The following software units are of relevance when setting up the solution:

SAP Kernel release 7.22, 7.42 or newer

The solution is based on ITS (Internet Transaction Server). Existing systems with a 7.40 or 7.41 kernel
require a kernel exchange to 7.42. Kernel 7.21 must be exchanged with 7.22. This is possible without
downtime (via RKS = Rolling Kernel Switch). Lower kernel releases are not supported. In general, the latest
available kernel patch level is also recommended.

Please see section 5.2 – Minimum System Component Requirements in this document about the supported Basis
support packages, kernel versions and required patch levels.

2.3
System Landscape
The system landscape for SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is described below.
2.3.1
SAP Screen Personas based on HTML

SAP Screen Personas 3.0 consists of three fundamental layers: Client (Browser, SAP GUI for HTML), NW ABAP
Basis layer and the kernel. The UI Layers as well as the Personas ABAP Layer are entirely newly developed
components specifically for SAP Screen Personas 3.0. The rest, like the kernel as well as the HTML based
rendering of Dynpro screens are existing components that are already in place but needed to be extended to
support SAP Screen Personas.
2.4
Authorization and Role Concepts
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 will be available for a user only when the relevant authorizations are provided. For more
information on Authorization and Roles, refer to the Installation and Configuration Guide provided in the help

Security Considerations
This section provides an overview of the security considerations that are specific to the SAP Screen Personas
solution. The solution was developed based on SAP NetWeaver BASIS 7.40 SP03 with SAP Kernel 7.42. Therefore,
the corresponding security settings also apply to this solution.
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 relies on an SICF service, which starts a pre-configured WebGUI service. Existing security
measures for the SAP GUI for HTML and ITS apply to the default host/sap/bc/personas service. These
include but are not limited to cross side request forgery protection (SAP note 1481392) same origin policy settings
(SAP note 2111099), SICF session handling (SAP note 1777513).
5.1
Fundamental Security Guides
In general, since SAP Screen Personas is a user interface technology implemented as an add-on to the backend
system, it relies heavily on said system’s features related to security, data access governance, privacy or data
protection. For this reason, most features in this realm are dictated by the underlying system’s mechanisms and
policies. Anything specific to the SAP Screen Personas product or where possible discrepancies / special interest
areas exist will be explained below.

Minimum system component requirements
At the time of the creation of this document, SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP04 requires the following:

5.3
Network and communication security
Personas as a Web-based application, uses the HTTP and/or HTTPS ports as defined in the system profile
parameters (typically icm/server_port_0 and icm/server_port_1, for HTTP and HTTPS protocol). When
used via the SAP GUI, the normal SAP GUI port is utilized: 3200-3299 and 3300-3399 or a subset of these ranges,
depending on the system number.
Any secure network setup should follow recommendations related to SAP GUI for HTML and/or SAP GUI.

5.4
Data storage security
Since SAP Screen Personas is a UI technology, data security aspects are also governed by the same rules related to
system access via SAP GUI. A properly configured SAP Screen Personas add-on is not able to access any data that
the same user cannot access via SAP GUI or the webgui.
Critical configuration consideration must be given in this regard to the whitelists related to F4 Search Helps, URLs
or remote-enabled function modules. These could potentially allow access to data that a user otherwise is not
permitted to see. Care must be taken to only grant such features, which do not compromise information that the
user should not be able to access. These features can be controlled by specific functions that are part of the SAP
Screen Personas Administration transaction. Either appropriate authorization checks must be specified or only
non-sensitive remote-enabled function modules should be allowed here.
Backups, DB-specific activities, system tasks etc. follow the regular backend system recommendations. There are
no specific tasks related only to SAP Screen Personas.
A description of the content of all cookies provided and used by the application
SAP Screen Personas itself does not have its own set of cookies but relies on session handling provided by the
underlying frameworks, specifically SAPGUI for HTML and Web Dynpro for ABAP. Sessions are created and
handled by the Internet Communication Framework (ICF).

5.6
Security-Relevant Logging and Tracing
SAP Screen Personas does not use local log and trace files. SAP Screen Personas specific information might be
included in the log and trace mechanism used by the underlying frameworks (SAPGUI family, WDA, kernel logs).
Configuration changes are logged by SAP Screen Personas.
Regular browser development tools (such as the Console or debugging environment) can be used to troubleshoot
problems. Use the F12 key in most common browsers to access these features.
If necessary, it is possible to disable SAP Screen Personas in SAP GUI on a workstation for troubleshooting
purposes.
To do this, perform the following steps:
 Open SAP Logon
 Open menu (icon in upper left corner)
 Click on Options
 Select SAP Logon Options -> General
 Enter /SUPPORTBIT_OFF=SAP_PERSONAS in 'Additional Command Line Arguments'
 Click OK

Operations Information

SAP Screen Personas can be installed on any SAP system. Therefore, the general operations information that is
covered in the related Operations Guides also applies to SAP Screen Personas. For more information about

6.1
Administration and Management
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 user administration is based on regular backend security administration features (like
transactions PFCG, SU01 or Central User Administration etc.). Access to Personas features is controlled by PFCG
roles, standard authorization objects and activities. Thus it seamlessly integrates into the regular user administration
processes and doesn’t require separate setup. Any user requires a valid account with the necessary Personas-specific
and regular business authorizations to access the system.
Since Personas 3.0 is built into SAP GUI for HTML (webgui), the authentication mechanism is equivalent to the
methods employed by that product. SAP Screen Personas flavors are also available in the native SAP GUI, so the
authentication used by SAP GUI is utilized if the personalized screens are accessed via the SAP GUI.
Similarly, the Single Sign-On (SSO) mechanism is also equivalent to those methods used by SAP GUI for HTML and
SAP GUI.
6.1.1
Access
Follow these steps to get the URL to access Personas from the system:
Personas is accessed from the user’s PC via a shortcut URL. As an Administrator, you can generate this URL by
following the steps below:
1. Go to transaction SICF using the SAP GUI
2. Select the following filters and press “Execute”:
a. Hierarchy Type – SERVICE
b. Service Name – personas
3. Right-click on the "personas" service and select “Test service”. A GUI Security dialog pops up.
4. Select “Allow this one time” and click OK. You will be taken to the Personas application in the default browser
window. This URL can be saved and used as a shortcut to access the system via SAP Screen Personas.

User and Role Management
The Personas administrator assigns users through User and Role Maintenance for SAP Screen Personas. To
access SAP Screen Personas, users should have SAP user accounts to the system in which SAP Screen Personas
is installed. For details on User and Role Maintenance in the backend, refer to SAP Screen Personas Maintenance
in the Application Help at help.sap.com.
6.1.3
Authorizations
There is no “default” Personas-specific user in the standard delivery, i.e. any user must be assigned the necessary
Personas-related authorization(s) using regular user administration features.
In addition, the existing backend security configuration is in full effect, which means that access to transactions or
individual functions within a transaction etc. are completely controlled by the regular SAP security settings. It is not
possible to circumvent this via SAP Screen Personas. A user can only perform the same actions like when accessing
the system using the SAP GUI.
Please refer to the appropriate section in the SAP Screen Personas Configuration Guide for details related to the
delivered Personas-specific standard roles and additional authorization considerations.
