ICCC Business Mission to India
ICCC Business Mission to India
January 3 – 16, 2013
Growth Story”, the PBD2013 will be deliberating on greater opportunities in India for the Diaspora as a result of India’s
growth. It will highlight safe environment for Overseas Indians for their contribution to economic growth and social development in India. Members of the delegation will thus have at the Kochi PBD an informative glimpse into India’s plans for
future development and emerging business opportunities.
Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, New Delhi & Amritsar
he Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) is cognizant of the importance of growing economic partnership
between Canada and India. With trade representing 60 percent of the Canadian economy, deepening commercial
partnerships with Indian business is an important factor in Canada’s economic growth. The second visit of Prime
Minister Harper to India has given further impetus to economic relations with India especially in key sectors such as food
security, education, energy security, infrastructure etc. The ICCC is, therefore, pleased to lead a business delegation to India
from January 3-16, 2013. The organizers have established for members of the delegation a full program, including networking events, policy discussions and participation in the two day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2013 in Kochi. The members of
the delegation will be visiting seven cities: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, New Delhi & Amritsar.
Vibrant Gujarat 2013
The members of the delegation will also participate in the Vibrant Gujarat convention in Gandhinagar. Canada is a partner
country and the country seminar on Canada with its theme “Canada: The Preferred Business Destination”. The event is
an initiative of Gujarat state for investment promotion and advancement of economic and social development. The event
will provide enormous prospects to the State to display its strengths, progressive stand, initiatives, investor friendly climate
and culture of Gujarat.
Meetings with Officials
Institutional Partners
i) Members of City of Brampton headed by Mayor Susan Fennell and its economic development team. Brampton is taking
an active initiative to create a healthy environment for business and small scale industries with Indo-Canadians as bridge
builder for promoting relations with India. Brampton has a successful, diversified economy and is home to more than 8,000
businesses, 153,000 workers, with an economic base comprised of a services-producing sector of 72 percent and a goodsproducing sector of 28 percent. The city of Brampton has thus joined the ICCC delegation to project Brampton’s distinct
strengths with business opportunities available in India.
ii) Members of City of Markham headed by Mayor Frank Scarpitti. Markham is taking an active approach to create an
environment for information technology and life sciences industries, and has demonstrated focused leadership on developing India-related strategies, including its participation in PBD Canada 2011, PBD Jaipur 2012 and Pan-IIT meetings in the
United States. Its recently released Economic 2020 blueprint sees a direct trajectory to become the Silicon Valley of Canada.
It thus joins the ICCC delegation to project Markham’s distinct information technology strengths and marry it with economic opportunities available in India in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). As is evident from the Joint
Statement on the occasion of the State visit to India of Prime Minister Harper, ICT has emerged as a sector with promising
business to business partnership and cooperation.
In addition to business meetings, delegates will also have an opportunity to have meetings with Canadian and Indian policymakers. The ICCC has arranged meetings with senior Indian government representatives, with the representatives of the
High Commission of Canada in New Delhi, the Consulate of Canada in Mumbai and Ontario International Marketing Centre
Representatives based in Delhi and Mumbai. The ICCC and the City of Brampton will also be holding related meetings with
business and state-level officials to promote synergistic opportunities in the SMEs and the wider services sector.
The proposed program as well as information on hosting and participating organizations and description of delegates is
given in succeeding pages. For more information, please contact us at indiamission@iccc.org or at www.iccc.org.
Highlights of the Program
The ICCC has developed a program for the delegation that includes meetings with representatives of some of India’s largest and most influential trade bodies, such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India-Canada Business Chamber
(ICBC), World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai, the All India Association of Industries and important trade organizations in
some states. In addition, the President of ICCC and Mayor of Brampton will be meeting the President of The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in New Delhi. Meetings with these organizations will take
various formats – including B2B meetings, networking receptions, luncheon, roundtables and briefings – to offer the delegation valuable opportunities for business connections with Indian companies represented by these organizations.
PBD-India
The members of the delegation will also be attending the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Kochi which is an important
event for networking and information about Indian economic initiatives. With its theme “Engaging Diaspora: The Indian
