Spooky Story Writing - Person, Place, and Thing Story
Due _____________________________
In class:
1. Select a person, place, or thing (object). Choose someone/something you’d be willing to
work into a story.
Examples:
Person – your elderly neighbor, the school bus driver, a kid in the cafeteria or in one of your classes
Place (note how specific) – the H wing vending machines, the inside of your friend’s car, your brother’s
closet, the storage closet at your place of employment
Thing – your mother’s earrings, your best friend’s gym bag, your grandfather’s reading glasses, the rusty
old bike in your garage, the painting your uncle made that hangs in your parents’ bathroom, the dog’s tr
eat jar in the kitchen
2. Write a paragraph describing this person, place and thing. (Or, if you want to be freed of sentence str
ucture and paragraph logic, simply bullet details about your subject.)
Include as much as you can, even if it seems random or unimportant or you’re not sure if it’s accurate.
Engage all your senses: What does this person, place or thing look like? Sound like? Smell like? How does
this person, place or thing feel to the touch? If appropriate, engage your sense of taste as well.
Assignment (note that it has multiple parts.)
1. After writing a paragraph explaining each of the Person place and thing you are ready for the next
