I AM CONSISTENT Answer the activity “I am Consistent” that you can see on page 4 of the handout. THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE: CONSISTENCY WINS THE RACE There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch. Hare ran down the road for a while and then paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?" Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax." He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line. The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare. Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line. After that, Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!" For discussion: After being beaten by Tortoise, Hare reminds himself, “Don’t brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!” There’s wisdom for today in this age-old Aesop fable, and today’s lesson is about the power of being consistent when it comes to reaching your goals. Whether you have committed to eating healthy, to exercising regularly, or saving money, being consistent will play a crucial role in achieving your goals. Seven Ways to Increase Your Consistency 1. Make a commitment. After you identify the activities you need to do to accomplish your goals, make a commitment to do them consistently—without fail or excuse. Make that decision as to when and what you will do in advance, rather than waiting until the time you plan to do it. 2. Set up routines. Establish a routine to do your daily activities. For example, if you are going to exercise every morning, set up a routine. Allocate the amount of time you will need to do each activity up to and including your exercise period—such as getting out of bed, dressing, morning chores, and travel time. 3. Don’t allow excuses. Resolve right now that you will not permit yourself to make excuses. 4. Take advantage of your peak energy state. When is your energy level at its highest? Whenever possible, use these times to devote to the activities you need to be consistent about. It’s much easier to do what you know you should do when you have energy than when you are exhausted. 5. Do the challenging tasks first. I have found it is always best to do the most important activities first. If the tasks that will drive your results and help you achieve your goal are hard, do them first. Review your goals often. After writing down your goals, consider writing a commitment letter to remind yourself why your goal is important and to list the reasons you want to achieve it. Review the letter anytime you find yourself procrastinating or rationalizing that something else is more important. SCHOOL YEAR 2018-2019 HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO https://www.youtub e.com/watch?v=Sf3 oMy7-e-I 7. Commit to 21 days in a row. It takes 21 consecutive days to make something a habit. Consistency will be easier once it becomes a habit for you. Will you do what is required of you for 21 straight days? I AM CONFIDENT: ASK ME NOW ACTIVITY Are you practicing proper hygiene and grooming? If you will rate yourself from 1-10, what will be your rate in practicing proper hygiene and grooming? Why do we need to practice proper hygiene and grooming? PROPER HYGIENE PINOY HENYO (MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY) Students will play the Pinoy Henyo using the key words and practices in proper hygiene. The teacher may use the words like: Taking a Bath, Toothbrush, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Nail Cutter, Comb, Deodorant, Tissue, Washing of hands, etc… What are the words used in the activity all about? What is the relation of these words in our topic? WORD SEARCH (MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY) Students will answer a crossword puzzle that is related to the value focus- proper hygiene. Posts 2 kinds of pictures on board and ask the students to observe and try to figure out what is the picture all about. They can compare 6 SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE Strong in Mind, Body and Spirit Basic Education Unit VALUES AND CHARACTER STRENGTHENING PROGRAM 4th QUARTER SCHOOL YEAR 2018-2019 HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL and widen their imaginations of how these two boys lived. Below the pictures, leave space wherein the students can write their observations (phrases will do). •What are your observations between the two boys? What is your basis? •If you will choose between the two appearances, what will you choose to be? •What will you do to present yourself clean and tidy? •What do you think will happen if we do not practice proper hygiene? •What will happen if we practice proper hygiene? •Between the two boys, who do you think will gain more friends and why? •How proper hygiene builds our self-confidence? SHARE YOUR STORY: HOW HYGIENE BUILDS YOUR CONFIDENCE? Ask the students to be honest and share their good hygiene experiences and how these experiences build their confidence. For example: I am Claire, 13 years old, at first, I am always lazy to brush my teeth. I brush it for only once a day. One day, I rode a train and it was so crowded. The man beside me yawned and opened his mouth wide. I smelled his breath and it smells so bad. That time, I realized the importance of taking care of my teeth. I don’t want someone to keep his/her distance on me because of having a bad breath. HOW TO CULTIVATE YOUR CONFIDENCE Discuss the following: Shower regularly. Showering helps get rid of dead skin cells, sweat, and dirt produced throughout the day. Use a gentle soap or bath gel. It is good to shower twice a day, in the morning and before going to bed. Hair care. Always keep your hair clean and tidy. Regularly wash your hair with shampoo. Massage your scalp well to remove dead skin cells, excess oil and dirt. Rinse well with clear water. Use a wide toothed comb for wet hair as it is easier to pull through. Wear clean clothes. Keep in mind that wearing clean underwear and clothes are a must! Do not wear clothes with stains, wrinkles, and unpleasant smells on them. Change your underclothes often. Wear clean shoes. Always keep your shoes clean by brushing, polishing, or washing. We will feel more 7 SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE Strong in Mind, Body and Spirit Basic Education Unit VALUES AND CHARACTER STRENGTHENING PROGRAM 4th QUARTER SCHOOL YEAR 2018-2019 HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL confident if your shoes are clean and not smelly. Always keep your hands clean. Wash your hands regularly and trim your nails. Longer nails can trap dirt and increase the chances to get germs. Always clean hands before and after eating. Have good dental hygiene. Brush teeth regularly and use dental floss. As much as possible, clean your mouth after every meal to avoid bad breath. Good dental hygiene gives us the confidence to smile and be at our best when conversing with others. Note: Toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months, and after you are ill. Use ‘smell nice’ products. If you need to start using a deodorant, choose the one that is suitable for your skin type. Do not spray perfume in the washroom or change-room. Be considerate because some people have problems or are sensitive to strong smells like perfume. Remember: nothing smells better than clean skin. Use appropriate clothes. Learn when and where to wear casual or formal clothes. Wearing appropriate clothes to suit the occasion gives a good impression and it also serves as an act of courtesy to an invitation given to us. It is also important that we are comfortable when wearing our clothes and shoes. Avoid those that are too constricting and inappropriate for our age. OVERALL OUTPUT Developing My Social Self Teachers may choose what to give as in overall output.
