OLG Debate OLG or called Ontario Lottery Government is in charge of a lot of gambling activity in Ontario, and many people is addicted to the gambling activity that the OLG is in charge of. Addiction may be the most harmful consequence of gambling, it’s very possible that the addiction could lead to depression and eventually suicides. The victim usually wants help but is scared to ask because they are afraid that they wont be able to gamble any more, victims often feels helpless and the negative emotions will add up and create depression. The victims will some times drink alcohol or in some extreme cases take drugs to relax from all the stress, but all the drugs and alcohols will just make them more depressed and then suicide may seem like the only way out for them. Problem gamblers are one of the most extreme types of gamblers, they are completely addicted to gambling and have almost no control of them self when it comes to gambling. It shows that about 50% of problem gamblers commit crimes to support their daily needs of money to gamble, most are white-collar crimes, which means non-violent crimes. This includes fraud, employee theft, and credit card scams, but there are violent crimes as well like burglary, mugging, and even some cases kidnaping. Most problem gamblers will reach out to their family or friends first for money before trying to commit any crimes for money, maybe they will be able to get money for the first couple of times but soon their friends or family will realize he or she cant pay them back that's when they will stop lending the person money. That's when the harassing and all the scams happens between the person and their family and friends, in the site of Toronto public health it shows that for every single problem gambler another 3 and 4 people are negatively impacted. So if a city have 100,000 problem gamblers then 300,000 to 400,000 people are negatively impacted, that's a lot of people and if u add the 100,000 problem gamblers to the number you will see there is 400,000 to 500,000 people in that city that is negatively impacted by gambling. Over the years the suicides caused by depression is increasing, over 50 percent of suicide is lead by depression and 75 percent of problem gamblers have depression. and they are at risk and at the edge of ending their own life, most are mentally unstable and are extremely likely to attempt to suicide. Its not all the games fault but if so many people are addicted to the game then the game should be watched with strong caution and lottery should be banned.
