Dyslexic

A person with dyslexia has trouble reading, writing, spelling, speaking, listening and
memory. They have less blood flow in the back of their left-brain than non-dyslexic
readers. This area analyses words and form words. Because this part is less active in
a dyslexic, the person has a slowed down pace of reading. Another area in the back
of the brain, that is the word forming area is in the occipital-temporal area of the left
–brain, below the word analysis area. This area processes words quickly. A dyslexic
person shows less activity in this part of the brain. Instead, dyslexics use the front
part of the left-brain more when analyzing words. Dyslexics use their right side of
their brains when reading, and therefore, it is slower for them to read. In a dyslexic’s
brain, the two hemisphere’s brain is more symmetrical, whereas a non-dyslexic has
a larger left side of the brain. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter acting on the brain
that affects dyslexia. When levels of dopamine are high, one may feel that time is
going very slowly. They experience disorientation – words and sounds do not create
a visual picture for them. Dyslexics even though not skilled in reading, are very
skilled at out of the box thinking, visual-partial skills and anything that involves the
right side of the brain. Dyslexics are also better artists, and very good
entrepreneurs. There is way that a dyslexic can improve one’s reading ability is an
intensive program called Fast For Words. At the end of this eight weeks program, an
dyslexic is shown to improve their reading ability. Being dyslexic is not a bad thing
at all, there are careers that are suitable for these people. Its just that these people
need a great support group to help this person to achieve full potential. I don’t think
being dyslexic is a bad thing, I believe that one can embrace their “disorder” and
make the best out of it.
