Global warming - who’s to blame?

Glaciers are melting and weather has gone wild with snowfall in Sahara desert and heatwaves in Canada. Record temperatures have been registered all around the globe, the average temperature of the Earth is rising. Scientists call it global warming and research shows that it is the effect of certain human activities. Global warming is a problem that is only getting worse. The question is – what’s causing it. 81% of the energy produced in the US comes from fossil fuels. We depend on fossil fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, factories and provide electricity. To get comfort we need to burn fossil fuels. As a result of burning fossil fuels, gases are released into the air. These gas emissions contribute to global warming.

The growing number of human population and excessive consumerism has led to building more and more factories. According to calculations there are roughly 10 million factories in the world. Most factories are fossil fuel operated which increases the gas emissions into the atmosphere and leads to global warming.

It has become common nowadays to have more than one car per family. More people are driving cars yearly. The US publisher Ward’s estimates that there were 1.015 billion vehicles in use in the world in 2010. Most of the cars are petrol and gas operated. Because of the ever growing number of people driving petrol vehicles, more gases that play a part in global warming are given off into the air.

All the above mentioned numbers make you wonder - are there natural ways to absorb these gases? In nature they are processed by plants and trees. The Earth is still adorned with vast tropical forests, woods and natural reserves. However people cut down trees for furniture, paper and agricultural purposes. Vast areas of tropical forests are disappearing; the surface of the earth is getting bald. Cutting down forests means there are fewer trees that help take harmful gases out of the air. That’s why cutting down forests leads to global warming.

All things considered we should understand that global warming is an issue that humans are responsible for and for this reason it’s important for people to take action now on global warming.
