Establishing Our Identity in Christ "You are MY Beloved!" “For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:8) When the rhythm of our lives is centered on who God is and who we are in Christ, then good things happen! This section outlines one effective way to read and inwardly digest the Word of God, which Scripture declares is “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12). The way: study and meditation of the Word, seeking to know God as He reveals Himself in the Bible and through communion with the Holy Spirit. Then, growing in knowing who we are as believers, because Jesus lives in us! The outline below and concept of pairing Scripture in this way is drawn from Revealing the Treasures of Who I Am in Christ, Because of Who God Is, by Sylvia Gunter. Directions for finding your true identity: 1. Read and Listen 2. Meditate 3. Pray 4. Respond 1. Read and listen: Slowly read the Biblical pairs below regarding Who God Is and Who I Am, because Jesus lives in me by the power of the Holy Spirit. What is God saying to me in this passage or verse? What does God want me to know at a new and deeper level? 2. Meditate: Read the verses again, listening inwardly for any response to the Holy Spirit that may rise up in your spirit. What emotion rose up in me? What memory, or image, or thought came to mind? How can this help me to betterknow my true identity in Christ, and love Him more dearly? 3. Pray: Express any of this back to God in prayer and praise. How is God taking this word to touch and change my deepest self? What does God want me to remember? What parts of myself am I to offer to God that I have not known that he wants? What joy or consolation does my Farther want to minister to me? What is God’s Word illuminating for me that I need to attend to or believe to receive it? What major concern in my life right now does this relate to? Is God asking me to grow, triumph, or endure in an area? Ask God, “How am I doing living into this truth”? What is my prayer for myself in light of God’s word(s) to me? 4. Respond: God is inviting you into His embrace. Allow yourselves to respond in whatever way the Holy Spirit leads as you read and meditate on His promises to you: What is my experience of God at this moment? What is my response to God? How can this experience of God’s presence become the norm of my experience?” (1) Bible verses on Who God is and who I am in Him. I AM ACCEPTED God is Abba, Father. Vyn of the Lamb's Hands Ministry, 9 Main Street, #995, Atkinson, NH 03811 Do you know Jesus? a case of deductive reasoning Hosea prophesied, "My people perish, they are destroyed because of lack of knowledge". Hosea 4:6 St.Jerome firmly insists, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." Jesus said, "It is the thief who comes to kill and steal and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10 Could it be that we have been robbed by the thief who comes to kill and steal and destroy because we lack knowledge? Are we victims of identity theft because we do not know Jesus and what He did for us? Jesus knew His identity. He stood as Son of God because He knew His Father. He had the knowledge He needed to have life and have it to the full. He chose to lay it down for the love His Father has for us. Do you know, comprehend, understand your identity in Christ, or are you sick, depressed, worn out, sad and defeated? Has joy been stolen from you? Has health been stolen from you? Do you have life to the full? Isaiah 53:5 tells us that "by His stripes we are healed," and 1 Peter 2:24 reiterates, "by His stripes we were healed." Proverbs 3:1 says, "My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare will they give you," while Proverbs 5:20-23 proclaims, "My son, be attentive to my words, incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within hour heart. For they are life to him who finds them and healing to all his flesh." You can't get any clearer than that! The Word says, Forget not ALL His Benefits Who forgives ALL your Sins Who heals ALL your Diseases Who redeems your life from Destruction Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies Who satisfies you with good things... ...so that your youth is renewed like the eagles Sounds like abundant life, huh? Sounds better and more affordable than National Health Care, doesn't it? You can't afford not to subscribe to The Word, Scripture, Identity Theft Protection, the Holy Bible. God wrote a new will (and Testament) to tell us of our inheritance as His children, and He wrote it in the blood of His Son. Such a covenant! Such a Daddy!
