Because of the modern setting and the deletion of some part of the original show, the movie  wasn’t good, and it didn’t reveal the feelings that Shakespeare wanted his audience to feel.
❏ The original setting of the play suppose to be pre-christian, feudal system, however, in  the movie, the story takes place in a modern, 21 century setting in england; therefore, we  can easily find…(Edgar using a postit note to communicate with his brother, Cordelia’s  camp has tanks and advanced computers etc.)
❏ All the lines are spoken with old english, and this doesn’t match the idea of modern time  king lear, so it was strange throughout the whole movie
❏ They deleted the part where Edger meets Albany and kills Oswald in half of the way, so  it will make the story incomplete and abrupt for its audience
❏ Also the whole movie is filled with lots of frantic confrontations, but lack of scene  changes, making it boring and plain

Regan and Cordelia

❏ Regan fake saying that he loves her father, Cordelia stays her opinion and tell the truth
❏ Regan: together with her sister, exile their father, cut off his knights
❏ Cordelia: despite the fact that his father banished her, she still remains devoted, even  from afar, and eventually brings an army to search and rescue her father from his  tormentors
❏ There is a sharp contrast between the reconciliation of Cordelia and her father and the  undutiful attitude from Regan to Lear

People are bad by nurture
❏ Edmund, as a illegitimate son, always has to endure the thoughts of his identity. Even  though he obtains the same love as his brother has, he can’t have the same political  power; Edmund, as a machiavellian character, claiming that his goddess is nature, ​ eager  seizes any opportunity and does anything to achieve his goals.
❏ His ambition is interesting insofar as it reflects not only a thirst for land and power but  also a desire for the recognition denied to him by his status as a bastard. Another way to  say is that if Edmund doesn’t hold this identity, he won’t become a villain by himself;  therefore, it is the situation in which his was born into makes him have the bad  characteristics.
