The disaster itself resulted in the evacuation and resettlement of over 33,6000 people, the fallout caused increased incidents of cancers in the most exposed areas. The incident raised issues concerning the safety of nuclear power plants. The worries remain even today. Homework (1) Research one local environmental disaster and one local environmental pressure group/society.
