Mid-year Reflection: Spring Semester Solutions Name: _________________________ Hour: ______ We are going to start this semester off by reflecting on last semester; thinking about what worked for us, as a class, along with what we can improve on for this semester. This is your LAST semester of high school! Mrs. Felix-Brown and I want this to be a semester full of happiness, growth, and success. In order to ensure that we all have a successful semester, there will be various changes made to the classroom rules and norms. The classroom is a space that we share! These rules and norms will be something that we create and establish TOGETHER. Assignments • Late work: o Late work will not be accepted, unless the assignment states otherwise o Teacher responsibility: Effectively communicate due dates § What is the best way this can be done to assure everyone is aware of the due date? • Absent Work: o If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you receive every assignment you missed § You will have as many days you were absent to complete and turn in the work • Ex. If you were absent for 1 day, you will have 1 day to make up the assignment • Your absence must be excused prior to your absence or within 24 hours of you being absent o If you are absent the day something is due, it is due the day you come back o Student responsibility: stay on top of your course work o Be proactive! § What are some things you can do to prevent missing work while you’re absent? Brain Breaks We will be incorporating breaks into our lessons. As a class, you have the option to pick one 5-minute break halfway through the class, or two 2:30-second breaks every 20 minutes • Student/ teacher responsibility: making sure breaks happen at correct times • During break times you can talk, check your phone, walk around, etc. o With that being said, when we are not on break you should be actively listening and your phone should be put away • Do you prefer one 5-minute break halfway through the class or two 2:30-second breaks every 20 minutes? Cell Phone Policy Cell phones are very valuable resources within the classroom, but they have their time and place. Cell phones will only be allowed during designated times. Unless Mrs. Felix-Brown or Ms. Spencer state that you can use them, phones should be kept in your bag, pocket, etc. They should not be kept on your desk, in your lap, in your hand, etc. • There will be a cell phone charging station in the classroom o You must bring your own charger o You can check your phone during class breaks o You may not check your phone while a lesson is going on • You may listen to music during in-class work time • Why should they be put away? Do you think these rules are fair? What do you think are fair consequence for not following these rules? Classroom Calendar I have created an online calendar that will have everything we are doing in the classroom that week. I have attached assignments, PowerPoints, video links, etc. This is a GREAT resource to use if you are absent, lost an assignment, need to refresh your memory, etc. I have also put the link on Google Classroom. • If you open your camera and scan the code it will take you to the class calendar • If you click on “attachments” you will be able to see assignments and/or PowerPoints related to the lesson Classroom Routines Every morning we will start with a “Do Now” activity. You are expected to complete this task within the first 10-minutes of class. Every Friday you will turn in your bell ringer worksheet. If you are absence any day, you are still expected to complete all days before Friday. If you are absent on Friday and miss turning it in, it is up to you to remember to turn it in first thing on Monday. Questions, comments, concerns, ideas, etc.?
