Read the entire lab experiment before starting.
Read and follow all instructions carefully.
Read all labels carefully to be sure you have the right chemical.
Read and follow safety instructions for each particular experiment.

Always wear safety goggles when working with chemicals or flames.
Before picking up a test tube or beaker, check to be sure it is not hot.
Never handle chemicals with your hands; use a clean spoon or tweezers.
Hair, loose clothing, and sleeves must be tied out of the way.
Keep hands away from face and mouth.
Wash hands after using chemicals.
Closed toe shoes are required for some labs. Get into the habit of bringing them for each lab.
There is no eating or drinking on lab days!
HANDLING CHEMICALS:

Perform only those experiments for which you have instructions and permission. NEVER combine
chemicals on your own.
NEVER taste a chemical or drink from lab equipment.
To test the odor of a chemical, fan the odor toward you and sniff carefully.
Do not exchange bottle tops.
NEVER return extra chemicals to the original bottle.
Put waste materials in a special container provided by the teacher.
Point or hold hot equipment or chemicals away from people.
Handle medicine droppers and squeeze bottles carefully to avoid squirting chemicals.
When diluting an acid, ALWAYS add acid to water slowly and slowly stir the mixture.

Perform the experiment exactly as instructed.
Measure accurately.
Record all observations carefully.
Be sure to follow safety procedures.
Keep chemicals separate and carefully labeled.
ACCIDENTS:

Report all accidents and injuries to the teacher immediately.
Know where fire extinguisher and fire blanket are stored.
If you spill or splash a chemical anywhere on you, wash the area immediately for several minutes and tell the
teacher.
Notify the teacher if you see any dangerous conditions in the classroom.
CLEAN-UP:

All equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and returned to its proper place before the end of the period.
Dispose of all chemicals as instructed.
