In 1946, a peg of 2.8 Turkish Lira = 1 US dollar was adopted and maintained until 1960.
The currency was devalued to 9 Turkish lira = 1 dollar in 1960.
From 1970, a series of hard and soft pegs to the dollar operated as Turkish lira depreciates.
Turkish lira has been listed several times as the least valuable currency in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.
At the beginning of 2005, The Grand National Assembly of Turkey introduced New Turkish Liras.
