Product Overview
Huawei S9700 series terabit routing switches (S9700 for short) are high-end switches designed for
next-generation campus networks and data centers to provide service aggregation. Based on Huawei Versatile
Routing Platform (VRP), the S9700 provides high Layer 2/Layer 3 switching capabilities and integrates
diversified services such as MPLS VPN, hardware IPv6, desktop cloud, video conferencing, and wireless access.
In addition, the S9700 provides a variety of reliability technologies including in-service software upgrade,
non-stop forwarding, hardware OAM/BFD, and ring network protection. These technologies improve customers'
network efficiency and maximize the normal operation time, which reduce customers' total cost of ownership
(TCO).
Huawei S9700 series include S9703, S9706, and S9712. As can be inserted new X1E cards that ENP chip inside,
S9700 series switches can be upgrade to agile switches.
Configuration Guide
To configure the S9700, perform the required operations in order: select the chassis, main processing unit (MPU),
and power module -> select service cards -> select special service cards -> select software and license -> select
electrical and optical modules -> select stack cables -> meet other requirements -> select auxiliary materials.
1. Select the Chassis, MPU, and Power Module

Select the chassis based on the number of required service cards
For FCC standards need for the North American region, please select FCC machine frame and the corresponding
masters, line cards. For the FCC's configuration, Overseas unistar toolkit has been implemented the algorithm in
the configure wizard interface, which has the item of Need FCC or not, when selected Yes, the code does not meet
FCC standards will be filtered out.

6. Select Stack Cables
S9700 support cluster by fabric and cluster by interface.
EH1D2VS08000 cluster card is development on V2R3 and can achieve CSS fabric cluster when inserted into the
master of SRUC. When use CSS fabric cluster function, after select the cluster service sub card (the cluster cable
needs to separately configured), you should configure the cluster cable of Direct-attach Cables, or SFP+ optical
modules and matching fibers or AOC modules
The 10GE and 40GE ports on the S9700 can be used to set up stacks (for details about the cards supporting stack,
see "Cards Supporting Service Interface Stack" in 2. Select Service Cards. You can select SFP+ optical modules
and matching fibers to set up stacks through service interfaces. Alternatively, you can select the following stack
cables.

7. Meet Other Requirements
Cabinets: Huawei provides specialized AC and DC cabinets for the S9706/S9712. Each cabinet can accommodate
one S9712 or two S9706s. The cabinet is optional and configured based on requirements.
8. Select Auxiliary Materials
1.
Select fibers.
To configure fibers for a non-BIDI optical module, each optical interface must be configured with a Tx optical
fiber and an Rx optical fiber of the same type. To configure fibers for a BIDI optical module, configure only one
optical fiber. If single-mode optical modules are used, configure single-mode fibers. If multimode optical modules
are used, configure multimode fibers. You can select fibers of different lengths. Huawei provides fibers of 10 m,
20 m, and 30 m.
2.
Select network cables.
Configure each network cable with two RJ45 connectors (part number 14080082). The length of network cables is
determined based on user requirements. The price grows for every 1 m increase in length. In addition, the network
cable (part number 25050014) is sold with the connectors.
3.
Select power cables.
External cables used for assemble chassis (desk installation)
No cabinet is used. The assembly chassis obtains power from customer's PDF.

Note:

The price of cables is included in the quotation of DC power module. By default, Huawei provides blue (-48 V) and black
(GND) cables. If the customer needs other cables, the requirement should be added to the contract, and the cables may be
purchased locally or from Huawei headquarters.
