It is a fully government-assisted college established to increase the number of Bumiputera work force in the public and private sectors, particularly in the field of business, accounting and information technology. It also aims at enhancing academic excellence among Bumiputera students who have attained moderate results in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). The six colleges throughout Malaysia are: KPM Ayer Molek (KPMAM), Melaka KPM Bandar Melaka (KPMBM), Melaka KPM Bandar Penawar (KPMBP), Johor KPM Beranang (KPMB), Selangor KPM Indera Mahkota (KPMIM), Pahang KPM Seri Iskandar (KPMSI), Perak Conducting only full-time programmes, KPM uses English as the medium of instruction. (Foundation 1½ years + HND 2 years) Note: Students can only proceed to HND level after having passed and completed their Foundation programme. - at least C/C6 - D/7D/ and E/8E Notes:* Applicants with a Pass for SPM Bahasa Melayu need to improve the grade to a credit to fulfil the graduation requirements. ** For the DAB programme, preference will be given to candidates from the science stream and those who have attained good grades in science subjects such as Agricultural Science (Sains Pertanian), Additional Science (Sains Tambahan), General Science (Rampaian Sains) and Pure Science subjects such as Biology, Physics and Chemistry. _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 2 ACADEMIC REGISTRATION Having discussed with the academic advisor, students must register their courses within the specified time during the first week of the beginning of each semester. Late registration is allowed within the subsequent 7 working days. Late registration fees are: RM 20.00 RM 5.00 - first day each subsequent day Students failing to do academic registration without undue reasons within stipulated time will be terminated by the college. CREDIT TRANSFER Credit transfer will only be considered for students who have: a. successfully completed their studies (certificate / diploma level) at recognised institutions, b. fulfilled all requirements upon submission of their application for credit transfer, with relevant supporting documents (application letter, syllabus, and certificate/transcript). The grading system is as shown in the table below. Students obtaining a grade C- and below have to repeat the course(s) concerned. Uniform Body Clubs/sports/entrepreneurial club (PSN) Students are allowed to repeat failed course(s) or replace failed course(s) with other course(s) belonging to the same group. Three (3) attempts are allowed for each course/group. INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (ITR) Industrial Training is a compulsory course for all KPM students except for HND and DCN programmes. The duration of the training is twelve (12) weeks in Semester 6 after completion all the courses required by the programme. During ITR, the students are supervised by an industrial supervisor at the particular organization they are with and a supervisor from the college. Coordination between the industrial and college supervisors may be established should the need arise. Upon completion of the training, the industrial supervisor will submit an evaluation report relating to student’s performance. Formatted by KPM, the report assesses students’ discipline, punctuality, interest, participation, leadership skills, general skills, development and interaction at the industry. Students can only be allowed to undergo industrial training after passing ALL courses within the maximum 7 semesters. Only 2 attempts are granted for industrial training. An academic year is divided into 2 semesters, each semester consist of 26 weeks (1 orientation week, 14 lecture weeks, 1 week mid-semester break, 1 revision week, 3 examination weeks, and 6 weeks semester holiday). 2.0 ACADEMIC LOAD A semester load normally consists of 5 to 7 courses including repeat courses which range from 12 to 20 credit hours. A grade ‘F’ will be recorded if a student fails to comply with this regulation. 3.3.2 Industrial Training It is compulsory for all graduating students to attend and pass industrial training for a minimum of 12 weeks. 3.3.3 Co Curriculum It is compulsory for all registered students to attend and pass co curriculum courses. 3.3.4 Supplementary Examination “Graduating students are allowed to sit for this examination exclusively to: a. obtain at least a passing grade for course(s) that they have sat for and failed (RE-SIT for FAILED papers - subject to clause 3.5); OR b. improve CGPA to 2.00 and above. Graduating students who choose not to sit for the supplementary examination is allowed to extend their semester of study in order to repeat course(s) failed, subjected to clause 3.9 below. Graduating students who have been barred from examination or failed due to plagiarism/cheating offences are not eligible to sit for this examination. They have to repeat the course(s) in the following semester (subject to clause 3.9). _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 8 DIA, DBS, DEn, DAB, DLM, DIB, DBF, DCD 3.4 Incomplete Grade 3.4.1 A grade ‘TL’ is recorded for a student who is unable to complete his/her course(s) and with prior approval by the College Senate. The grade ‘TL’ carries no grade points and will not be used in computing a student’s GPA and CGPA. The ‘TL’ grade must be converted to a completed grade by the first 2 weeks of the following semester. Should a student fail to complete the course work within the stipulated time, the ‘TL’ grade will be replaced with an ‘F’ grade and will be computed in the student’s grade point average (GPA) of the previous semester. A student is not allowed to re-register for a course in which a ‘TL’ grade has been assigned. 3.4.2 3.5 Resit A grade ‘TL’ is also recorded for a student who falls under clause 6.2. The grade ‘TL’ carries no grade points and will not be used in computing a student’s GPA and CGPA. The ‘TL’ grade must be converted to a completed grade at the end of the following semester. A student who obtains a grade ‘D+’ and/or below in any of the courses must repeat that/those courses with a charge of RM50.00 for each course. The maximum grade for those who repeat the course(s) due cheating/plagiarising/barred from seating the final examination case(s) is B. to A student is allowed to repeat any course not more than 2 times within the period allowed. Only the higher grade earned will be used in re computing both the grade point average (GPA) and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). However, the credit hours earned for that/those course(s) remain the same. 3.6 Prerequisite(s) A student is allowed to sit for a course at a higher level provided he/she passes the prerequisites. Under special circumstances approval must be obtained from the College Senate. Refer Appendix for courses with prerequisites. 3.7 Add/Drop/Withdrawal Add/Drop can only be allowed within 1 week after academic registration with the approval of the mentor. Withdrawal can only be allowed within 6 weeks after academic registration with the approval of the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs. The credit hours required after withdrawal should meet the minimum of 12 credit hours. The credit hours for withdrawal will not be calculated in GPA or CGPA. The withdrawal charge is RM50.00 per course. 3.8 Pass/Fail Grade A Pass or Fail grade will also be recorded for certain courses but will not be used in computing the CGPA. 3.9 Extended Semester A normal academic duration for students enrolled for DIA, DBS, DEC, DAB, DEn, DLM, DIB, DBF and DCD comprise of 6 semesters (including industrial training) during which students must complete their study programme. Students are allowed to extend their studies for a maximum of 2 semesters. _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 9 DIA, DBS, DEn, DAB, DLM, DIB, DBF, DCD 4.0 ACADEMIC STANDING 4.1 Satisfactory Performance (MP) A student’s performance is satisfactory if he/she obtains a CGPA of 2.00 and above. 4.2 Unsatisfactory Performance For a student who earns a CGPA of less than 2.00, he/she will be placed on probation or dismissed from the college. 4.2.1 Academic Probation (MPS) A student is on academic probation if he/she obtains a CGPA ranging from 1.67 to 1.99 from Semester 2 onwards. Note: Students in Semester 1 will not be placed under academic probation. 4.2.2 Dismissal (DTP) A student will be dismissed if he/she: 5.0 a. obtains a GPA of 1.00, OR b. c. obtains a CGPA of less than 1.67, OR is on probation (MPS) for 2 consecutive semesters, OR d. fails ALL registered academic courses in the semester, OR e. fails the same course(s) after 3 attempts except for Industrial Training f. fails to pass ALL courses by semester 8 APPEALS 5.1 Appeals For Re Evaluation of Answer Scripts Appeals must be submitted to the College Director within 1 week after examination results are announced. Students who are not satisfied with their results can appeal to the College Senate for a re-evaluation of their answer scripts. A charge of RM50.00 per course will be imposed and the payment is not refundable. The College Senate may determine that the appeal be disallowed for one of the following reasons: a. that the student did not fulfil all assessment or attendance requirements b. that the grounds on which the appeal is based are not supported by documentation submitted by the student c. that the appeal is in relation to a grade awarded following a remarking d. that the appeal is in relation to an application for permission to resubmit an assignment which was earlier denied The result of the appeal will be released within 1 week. 5.2 Appeals for Re Admission to Continue Studies A student who is dismissed may appeal to the Director of Higher Education Division, MARA through the College Director within 2 weeks after examination results are announced. _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 10 DIA, DBS, DEn, DAB, DLM, DIB, DBF, DCD 6.0 ATTENDANCE 6.1 Class Attendance Class attendance is calculated from the first day of class. A 90% attendance (based on contact hours) for every course is compulsory to enable students to sit for the final semester examination. However, an 80% of attendance (based on contact hours) for every course is allowed for students with Medical Certification (MC) and prior approved leave. Beyond the above, students are required to repeat the course(s). A grade “DH” will be recorded in the transcript. 6.2 Any students given medical leave (MC) by an authorised medical officer during the final examination week will be required to repeat the course(s) in the following semester. A grade ’TL’ will be recorded in the transcript. However, ONLY students who have been hospitalised and obtain MC due to critical illness and/or contagious disease such as chicken pox, dengue, mums etc will be allowed to appeal to sit for the supplementary examination in January or July. 6.3 Students can be barred from class/exam OR dismissed (subject to clause 4.2.2) due to unsatisfactory attendance at any time during the semester. 6.4 Deferral The maximum duration for the deferment with approval from the Director of Higher Education Division, MARA through the College Director, must not exceed 2 semesters (1 year). The CGPA for students on deferment remain unchanged for that duration until they resume their studies. 7.0 PLAGIARISM AND CHEATING Plagiarism, whether inadvertent or deliberate, can be inferred from any of the following actions: a. word-for-word copying of sentences or whole paragraphs from one or more sources (the work of other persons), or presenting substantial extracts from books, articles, theses, other unpublished work such as working papers, seminar and conference papers, internal reports, computer software, lecture notes or tapes, without clearly indicating their origin, b. using close paraphrasing of sentences or whole paragraphs acknowledgement in the form of reference to the original work, c. submitting another programme member’s work in whole or in part, d. use of another person’s ideas, work or research data without acknowledgement, e. submitting work which has been written by someone else on the student’s behalf, f. special note is also drawn to the fact that students may not submit part or whole of work previously presented for assessment in another course. g. candidates are not allowed to bring into examination hall any document or instrument, either printed or written or electronic forms that is not approved, that assist or lead to plagiarism/cheating. The case shall be referred to the college Senate Board. _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 11 DIA, DBS, DEn, DAB, DLM, DIB, DBF, DCD 8.0 ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS 8.1 MARA Outstanding Performance Award-MOPA (Anugerah Kecemerlangan MARA) MARA Outstanding Performance Award is granted to full-time students with good academic standing who attain a CGPA 3.75 and above upon graduation. 8.2 College Outstanding Performance Award-COPA (Anugerah Kecemerlangan Kolej) College Outstanding Performance Award is granted to full-time students with good academic standing who attain a GPA 3.50 and above for the semester. 8.3 Eligibility for Academic Excellence Awards To be eligible for academic awards, students must satisfy all of the following: 9.0 a. first attempt for all courses, b. no ‘TL’ grades in his/her transcript, c. a minimum of 12 credit hours for every semester (MOPA) and present semester (COPA), and d. no disciplinary misconduct. RESULT SLIP, TRANSCRIPT & DIPLOMA 9.1 Result Slip Result slips will be issued every semester examination after the endorsement of results by the Senate. 9.2 Transcript Transcripts will be issued upon completion of the programme after the endorsement of results by the Senate. 9.3 Diploma Diploma will be awarded upon graduation. 9.4 Reprints Any request for reprints will be charged the following: a. Result Slip : RM10.00 per copy b. Transcript : RM50.00 per copy c. : RM100.00 per copy Diploma Students will be charged double the amount stated above per copy for each subsequent reprint. _________________________________________________________ KPM ACADEMIC REGULATIONS 7th Edition (2015) 12 DIA, DBS, DEn, DAB, DLM, DIB, DBF, DCD 10.0 GRADUATING 10.1 An official graduation ceremony is held annually whereby a diploma will be awarded. The responsibility for fulfilling the requirements for graduation rests with the individual student. 10.2 Graduation Requirements: Prior to graduation, students must obtain a Graduate status (TPG) when they fulfill the following citeria: a. pass all courses, including Industrial Training and Co-Curriculum b. obtain a Credit for Bahasa Melayu in SPM c. achieve an overall CGPA of 2.00 and above d. achieve an overall CGPA of 2.00 and above for all core courses (not effective as at January 2013 intake) complete the required credit hours according to programmes within a e. maximum of 8 semesters: PROGRAMME July 2012 Intake July 2013 January Intake July Intake 2014 Intake 2014 onwards DIA 95 credit hours 93 credit hours DBS 92 credit hours 90 credit hours 91 credit hours 93 credit hours 95 credit hours 93 credit hours 93 credit hours 91 credit hours 95 credit hours 93 credit hours DEn DAB 95 credit hours for Muslim students and 92 for non- Muslim students DLM DIB DBF 93 credit hours for Muslim students 92 credit hours 95 credit hours 93 credit hours and 90 for non- Muslim students DCD 92 credit hours e. f. g. 10.3 93 credit hours 91 credit hours obtain the Senate approval for graduation satisfy all other college requirements discharge all financial obligations TP(S) Status: Graduating students will be given a conditional programme completion status (TPS) if: 10.3.1 they failed any courses in their final semester and they are eligible to sit for Supplementary Examination. Refer to clause 3.3.4. Subsequent failure will lead to dismissal status (DTP). 10.3.2 they are not able to pass all courses with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 (and minimum core CGPA of 2.00 where it applies).
