DEMI™ ULTRA
TROUBLESHOOTING
GUIDE
My Demi Ultra has stopped working. What process do I need to go through to make it work?
First, do not attempt to open and repair any component of the device. This should only be
attempted by a certified repair technician. Next, go through following guide to trouble
shoot and identify the fault. If your Demi Ultra continues to give problems, contact your
dealer or our local representative. According to the warranty you chose and the state of it,
your curing light could be recalled and replaced.
It’s the first time that I use the Demi Ultra.
The U-40 doesn’t require conditioning before its first use. It’s ready for its first charge and
use right out of the box.
However, for full run time and recharge performance the U-40 needs to be recharged
overnight just once at any time during the product life – it can be the first night or five years
down the road. Until the first overnight recharge the U-40 will perform slightly less than
optimal.
The Handpiece indicator lights don’t illuminate.
The electrical charge may be completely drained. Put the Handpiece in the Charging Dock
for 60 seconds.
The Handpiece is in the Charging Dock, but the Charging Indicator Lights don’t light.
Check to verify that the power cord is inserted into the Dock and into a power receptacle.
Check the power supply and cord for damage. If there is damage discontinue use of the
power supply.
The Handpiece Indicator Lights are blinking.
Verify that the LED Light Attachment is fully seated into the Magnetic Socket.
Sometimes Demi Ultra takes 70 seconds to charge:
If the Demi Ultra is left off the charging dock for more than 72 hours the U-40 will
experience “full drain” and will require 70 seconds to recharge fully. This occurs because
the Demi Ultra software continues to use energy for system checks even after the U-40 does
not have enough power for curing. However, if the Demi Ultra is stored in the charging dock
after every patient it should always recharge in 40 seconds or less.
The Charge Indicator Light turned red and the curing cycle stopped :
The U-40 is programmed not to start a curing cycle that it cannot complete. Therefore, if a
curing cycle is started it will not be cut short. Also, if the Charge Indicator Light is red and
the 20 second curing cycle is selected it may still be possible to complete a 5 or 10 second
curing cycle. Change the curing cycle selection to 5 or 10 seconds. If the yellow light comes
on there is enough charge to complete the selected cycle.
The Handpiece sounds (beeps) have stopped.
The Handpiece is in Silent Mode. Press and hold the Curing Time Selector button for 10
seconds to turn off Silent Mode. The unit will beep twice to indicate the Silent Mode setting
has been changed.
The Handpiece beeps once each second during a curing cycle.
This indicates PLS is not active, which occurs when the LED Light Button is pressed and
held. Press and release the button when activating a curing cycle.
Silent mode is turned on but the handpiece still beeps when curing
Whenever PLS is not active the unit will beep once per second during a curing cycle as a
safety precaution. This can occur when the LED Light Button is stuck in the “pressed”
position. Shield the tip and press the button 2-4 times. If beeping continues, attempt to
activate silent mode again.
A Radiometer test has less than three lights illuminated (i.e. only bottom two amber lights
are illuminated): this indicates the Demi Ultra doesn’t have enough power to cure.
First, confirm that the LED Light Attachment is flush with the radiometer Sensor and
centered within the white circle provided.
Debris may be blocking or clouding the LED Light Attachment lens or the Radiometer
Sensor. See cleaning instructions in the Product Care and Maintenance section and reset.
The Charging Indicator Lights on the Charging Dock blinks continuously when the Demi
Ultra unit is in the Charging Dock.
The unit may not be seated properly in the Charging Dock. Remove and reseat it.
Check the electrical contacts on the Charging Dock and Handpiece to see if they are fouled. If
so, clean the contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat the unit.
If the above actions do not resolve the problem, the Demi Ultra may require service by a
qualified technician. Contact Kerr Customer Care (see back cover) for details on shipping to
a service center.
The unit is providing less than 25 x 10-second cures on a full charge.
Leave the handpiece in the charging dock overnight. This will calibrate the power source
for optimal run time performance.
If the resolutions suggested above do not resolve the issue, or for other issues not listed here, please
contact your dealer or our local representative.
