METAL CLAD SWITCHGEAR
Metal Clad Switchgear :
Consists of an outdoor / indoor metal clad power switchgear in a complete
factory-built and tested subassembly, including vacuum power
circuit breakers, interconnecting bus, protective relating and auxiliary
equipment. The main interrupting device is removable and arranged
with a mechanism for moving it physically between connected and
disconnected positions. Equipped with self- aligning and self – coupling
primary and secondary disconnecting devices. The interrupting devices,
buses, voltage transformer and control power transformers, are
completely enclosed.The compartments are segregated from each
other by reinforced barriers to ensure that any internal fault is contained
within its own compartment.
- Circuit Breaker Compartment contains the vacuum breaker mounted
on a withdraw carriage which permits the breaker to be taken
out of the enclosure.
- Relays Section can be furnished as per customer needs.
Powerline can provide Siemens, ABB and Schweitzer products.
- Potential Transformer Compartment can be provided in place of a
Metal Clad Switchgear
circuit breaker compartment which can accommodate
two or three potential transformers in Open-Delta or grounded wye
configuration. The potential transformers are mounted on withdraw carriage.
- Main Busbars are completely enclosed by metal barriers and are
high strength, 98% conductivity, and rectangular copper with rounded
edges. The busbars are coated with a flame retardant and tract resistant
epoxy insulation.
- Cable Compartments are located at the rear of the cubicle.
Connections are generally provided for bottom entry cables.

Galvanized Steel to withstand harsh
Tropical weather conditions.The Enclosures are painted in light gray
(ANSI-61, ASTM-1535). baked enamel.
Metal Clad Switchgear
The Switchgear cell is specially designed and structurally enhanced to
withstand the internal over pressure due to an internal arc. The following
enhancements are made to make the switchgear arc-resistant.
- Pressure Relief Vents are located on the top of the switchgear cubicle. They are designed to open
when subjected to high pressure and relieve the high pressure and dissipate the arc products away
from operating personnel.
- Doors on the cubicle need to be opened often and are provided with various cutouts for viewing
windows, operating Knobs, louvers and locking handles etc. making them the weakest part of the switchgear
line-up.
- Louvers, when required, are provided on the front and/or rear bottom doors to ensure circulation of ventilation
of the switchgear.

vault access. The door is 1 3/4" thick and can be made of either Galvanized or Stainless Steel
in 16, 18 or 20 gauge. The door is secured by a strong frame, also manufactured by Powerline,
along with the supporting door hinges to ensure maximum strength and security. Security doors
are also built to be fire proof to fire rating specifications for added safety. Security doors are

POWER RACK: LOAD BREAK SWITCH AND FUSES RACK
Their operation is done through a disc or clock drive mechanism operator,
from outside of the substation. For automatic systems or systems located at a distance, a
motor drive mechanism can be provided for disconnecting switches, can also be provided with
a shunt-trip coil for remote control. Under load conditions, LDTP switches have an interruption
and disconnecting capacity up to their rated current (400, 630 or 1250 Amp) with a power
factor of cos = 1.0 to 0.7. The combination of load-break disconnecting switches and fuses
represents the ideal equipment to interrupt and open under short-circuit conditions, due to the
direct action of either of the three fuses on the switch, opening the three poles at the same time,
after the short-circuit current has been interrupted by the fuses. Load-break disconnecting
switches extinguish the voltaic arc through their three arcing chambers, built of synthetic
material, providing maximum electrical and mechanical security and arcing hooks with a special
head, extremely resistant to thermal impacts. All these elements are of the highest quality, to
assure maximum breaking capacity.

Three-pole load-break disconnecting switches are used to open medium voltage circuits
from 7.2kV up to 38 KV, connecting or disconnecting lines or cables, sectionalize
ring-circuits, as well as to connect or disconnect transformers under load conditions.
Disconnecting switches are built according to international standards (IEC). The main
application of load-break switches is in metal enclosed substations, and medium voltage
switchboards. They are built on a non-corrosive galvanized steel frame. The
drive shaft turns within synthetic material bushings avoiding corrosion and metal fatigue
which would make operation difficult after being installed for a long time. In Switches with
fuse-holders, interruptive capacity is determinated by the fuse used. Resin insulators are
used to support the live parts of the disconnecting switch that are made of silverplated
electrolytic copper (99.9%), as well as the straight contacts. Contact elements have a high
contact pressure thanks to a spring system, resulting in good contact between the blades
and the fixed-contacts. Minimum wear-off during the life of this equipment, offering a high
resistance against the impacts provoked by shortcircuits. Despite this high contact pressure,

Unit Substation:
Unit Substation transformers are generally close coupled to switchgear,
motor control, bus duct, air terminal chambers or other types of incoming
and outgoing equipment. These units feature a rectangular core and
coil design that is a distinguishing characteristic of liquid filled transformers.
A unit substation transformer must have either or both the HV and LV
bushings mounted on the transformer wall. Since each order is tailored
to meet specific customer requirements, Unit substation transformers
can be designed to replace existing equipment for ease of

Single Phase Padmounted / Composite Hood / Sill:
One piece compression molded replacement for the steel hood and sill
on the single phase padmounted transformer. The composite is made of
fiberglass-reinforced, non-conductive, flame-resistant thermo setting resin.
It latches at a single point to the tank. The system provides significant
operational advantages including more cost-effective corrosion protection
than stainless steel.
The composite hood/sill transformer has passed all ANSI C57.12.28
tamper-resistance tests, impact tests at -20º F and tests simulating a high-voltage
elbow failure. The design meets C57.12.25. Additional tests were performed to
ensure that the enclosure would withstand the abuse of string
weed trimmers and impact from lawn equipment. ISO 9001 CERTIFIED.

Insulators are manufactured with epoxy resin specially formulated for high voltage
applications and according to the highest technological standards. The manufacturing
is done through a pressure injection and gelating process, which does not allow internal
stresses and deformations to appear. The design permits horizontal or vertical mounting,
guaranteeing to support the weight of conducting bars in any position. Their robustness
makes them withstand dynamic stresses produced by short-circuit currents.
The metallic inserts anchored inside the epoxy resin during the manufacturing process
allow a high torque when mounting the insulators and tightening the supported elements.
Because of their low weight and reduced manufacturing tolerances insulators
perform with excellent mechanical characteristics, as well as a high resistance against
degradation in humid or even corrosive environments. The exclusive design of their shades

The disconnect switch is a hookstick-operated switch used to sectionalize or isolate
circuits on electrical distribution systems through 38 kV. The distribution switch can be
mounted on a single or double crossarm and is rated for 600 or 900 AMPS. Disconnect

Power Fuses
Current-limiting fuses are devices to protect high voltage systems against
short-circuit. They provide protection against thermic and dynamic damages that
would occur in case of a short-circuits or overloadings more than the minimum
interrupting capacity I3. The high voltage and high interrupting capacity
current-limiting fuses are "back-up" fuse type, according to the IEC-282.1 and
NMX-J-149-1 standard definitions and they are able to interrupt any current above
the minimum interrupting capacity I3. Currents between the rated current In and the
minimum interrupting capacity I3 are not interrupted safely. Fuses are
designed and manufactured according to international
standards IEC 60282-1, DIN 43625 , VDE 0670 part 4, and NMX-J-149-1
To obtain better results they can be used with Load Break Switches type LDTP,
as well as with low voltage protection devices. Thanks to their short-circuit
current-limiting characteristics, the short-circuit current is interrupted before the
first half-cycle of the current wave reaches its natural maximum value.
High interrupting capacity is obtained thanks to an optimum design that allows a
uniform distribution of the developed energy during interruption, to the excellent
materials and finish used, the care, the precision in the manufacturing and the
strict quality assurance system. Fuses are environmentally friendly
protection devices as they keep the fuse elements inside that work under
short-circuit conditions.They are mainly used as protection devices for transformers,
motors, capacitor-banks, underground cables, overhead lines, potential
transformers and other substation devices, including air insulated substations,
SF6 switchgears or RMU, installed in fuse-holders types SP, DSP, EFS or DFS,
load break switches types LDTP or LFST or in non-load switches types DTP or FST.

high quality manufactured and it helps to avoid ageing of the material, so they are
maintenance free. The routine test procedure includes measured ohmic resistance

Our copper ground rods are manufactured with a solid core of draw C1010-1020
steel. The copper jacket is electronically bonded to provide a permanet union between
copper and steel resulting in a corrosion resistant rod which can be driven in almost any
soil type.Where applicable, our rods meet or exceed U.L. Requirements.
Grounding Connections:
Both the standard duty and light duty clamps have a body of electrical bronze with a
non-ferrous hex head set screw to ensure positive contact between copper ground wire
and copper bonded ground rods. The light duty clamp offers a low cost compact design
alternative to the standard clamp.This clamp is made of malleable iron hot dip galvanized
to ASTM A-53 and furnished with a cadmium plated steel set screw. Sizes 1/4” - 3/8“ - 1/2”

Voltage Indicators:
Can be used in medium voltage networks with a rated voltage of 5 kV to 35 kV.
Their function is a permanent indication of the voltage status of the
respective core. A flashing lamp indicates the voltage status. Depending on

Bus Bar Kit:
Secondary Section Bus Bar Kit manufactured by
Powerline Electrical Products Corporation.
This Bus Bar kit connects each transformer in a transclosure
to the secondary cubicle. Powerline manufactures bus bars
out of Aluminum or Copper to various different sizes depending
on the current demand capacity of the transformer. The current
