Locking Devices
Every opening into a building that is closed by a door or window provides an opportunity for unauthorised intruders to gain entry
into the building. This is undesirable for a variety of reasons including safety, confidentiality and the protection of persons and
property.
In this section of the catalogue, we have brought together a comprehensive range of locking products and security devices to

LOCKS TO INDIVIDUAL FLAT ENTRANCE DOORS
NHBC Standards 6.7 - D4 provides guidance on combining security with personal safety and applies to flats on all levels.
The guidance states that locks should not be self-latching and should be openable from inside by a single manual operation not
requiring a key (reducing the risk of injury in a fire). One option is a “roller deadbolt rim latch” face fixed on the inside of the
door.

Handing Chart
A simple rule how to decide whether the door is left hand or right
hand - Stand in front of the closed door on the side where you can
see the hinges. If the hinges are to the right, its a right hand door - if
you see them to the left its a left hand door.
Note that the handing of the door is always decided from the
position of the hinge knuckles.

Master Key Systems
Rim
A master key suite is built from a system of cylinders and keys that
allow authorised key holders to pass through certain areas while
restricting access to unauthorised personnel. The system is
constructed around a master key that allows access to all areas (all
cylinders) while the servant keys have restricted access allowing the
control of access in a building. The purpose of a master key system
is therefore to provide convenience (one key per individual) while
maintaining security.
George Boyd is able to offer a full Master Keying Service from our in
house facilities. We are able to design and tailor master key systems
to meet your specific security needs ranging from simple Keyed Alike
systems (Fig.1) to Sub Keyed systems (Fig.3). We can also provide
computer generated key plans that record key and door numbers,
cater for suite expansions and provide construction phase keys. The
range includes single and double euro profile cylinders, single and
double oval profile cylinders, threaded cylinders and rim cylinders.
