USA ARCHERY LEVEL 1 INSTRUCTOR TRAINING The Baltimore Area Council (BAC), BSA, is pleased to offer a USA Archery (formerly National Archery Association) Level 1 (formerly Basic) Instructor Certification Course for adult and youth (16 years of age or older*) who are CURRENTLY REGISTERED BSA MEMBERS. This is a full day course with a written exam and pre-shoot safety briefing that you must pass in order to obtain the certification. Those who successfully complete this instructor course will be able to: Run the Boy Scout archery range at Broad Creek or any BSA archery range; Run a Cub Scout archery range at the District or Council level; Teach the 4-hour BSA Cub Scout Archery Range Officer course, certifying other adult Scouters to run a Cub Scout archery range (including Cub Day Camp Archery Ranges) at the District or Council level; Counsel archery merit badge for Boy Scouts; and Qualify to serve on 2017 National Scout Jamboree Archery Staff (Jamboree staff application is a separate and unrelated process. For more information about applying for jamboree staff, see http://www.summitbsa.org/events/jamboree/overview/). This is an instructor course, not a basic skills course. You should have some knowledge and experience in archery (ideally as a Cub Scout Range Officer) prior to taking this course. However, this is also a good course to take to learn the essentials to improve your archery skills. Certification is valid until December 31 after three years from course completion but can be renewed based on teaching experience without having to retake the class or re-pass the exam. You'll learn how to set up and operate a safe short-term archery range or archery program, how to teach new archers, how to maintain your equipment, and learn common shooting errors and correction which may also help your own skills. You'll also learn the BSA archery range rules and safety regulations, and the specific requirements and limitations imposed on archery events by BSA. This course will take place at the Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation in White Hall, MD on: Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Camp SAFFRAN (not Camp Spencer) This course will start promptly at 8 a.m. and will be an 8-hour course. The cost to attend is $75.00, payable by check along with the registration form below. Your course fee includes all course materials and equipment BUT NOT LUNCH. Bring your own lunch. A snack of orange juice, coffee and donuts will be provided at the beginning of the course. You are welcome to bring your own archery equipment for use during the class but, for those who do not own their own archery equipment, we will provide it. REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THIS COURSE IS APRIL 22—NO EXCEPTIONS. SIGN UP EARLY AS SPACE IS LIMITED AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOU WILL GET INTO THE CLASS EVEN IF SUBMITTING REGISTRATION BY THE DEADLINE. Once registered, you will receive an email confirmation with directions to the camp, instructions on where to meet and what to bring. This course is rain or shine so plan accordingly. For questions, please contact Mike Parrish at mparrish19@yahoo.com or 410-812-9405. *BSA requires that archery range instructors need to be at least 18 years of age. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Name (print)__________________________________ District (or Council name if not BAC)______________ Address_________________________________________________________________________________ email __________________________________________ phone number ____________________________ I am enclosing a check made out to “Michael L.
