 Plastics Industry Pipe Association of New Zealand
 Operates as a sector group under Plastics NZ Inc.
 Close association with PIPA Australia
 Up until recently PIPA NZ’s primary focus was on PVC

 Will draw down existing and new industry guidance

encompassing PE materials, pipes, fittings and pipe

 It is solely focussed on polyethylene pipeline materials

Industry Group ?
 The key vision and purpose of the organisation;
Leading the Correct Specification and
Installation of Polyethylene Pipe
Systems
 It is imperative for all industry participants; asset
owners, specifiers, engineers, contractors and suppliers,
that PE pipelines are correctly designed, specified and
installed.

 To lift the standards of design, specification and
construction
 To improve the training and performance of personnel
involved in pipe fusion
 To provide asset owners and engineers with tools and
guidelines to make informed decisions
What is NZ PEIG Going to Do
 Our primary focus to date has been on TRAINING.
 Bringing the NZ Unit Standards for pipe fusion up to
date with best industry practice
 10980 for electrofusion
 10987 for butt fusion
 Direct input into ITO
 Adoption of greater rigour and tougher prerequisites
 Awaiting review and adoption
 Development of a National Competency Register for
fusion welding technicians

 Guidelines and information to ensure correct
