Dear Colleagues,
The title already clearly states the objectives of the Congress: an update on new
technologies that research has made available to Periodontology and Implantology verifying, at the same time, their applicability in everyday clinical practice and the potential benefits for our patients. Indeed, the patient is the main
focal point of this meeting, as well as of our 2012-13 cultural events and it is the
patient who will reap advantages from our therapeutic procedures. Each innovation should be assessed primarily in terms of cost-benefit for the patient because we strongly believe that the true progress in medicine, as in dentistry,
brings an improvement to the quality of life in the majority of the population.
I am pleased to inform you that simultaneous translation from Italian to English
as well as from English into Italian will be provided.
Looking forward to seeing you in Rimini!

“HENRY M. GOLDMAN”
PRIZE 2013
“HENRY M. GOLDMAN” PRIZE 2013
The Italian Society of Periodontology would like to inform those wishing to submit one or more papers for the “H.M. Goldman” prize to be awarded during the
16th International Congress (Rimini, March 14th-16th, 2013), that the material
should be sent by February the 8th, 2013 for review and acceptance by the Scientific Committee.
Papers submitted may cover basic research, laboratory research or clinical research (clinical trials or innovative surgical techniques) provided they pertain to
biology and clinical periodontology and implant therapy.
The paper should be sent in English or in Italian language and should:
- be composed of a short abstract (max: 200 words) and a text divided into
Introduction, Material & Methods, Results, Conclusions and Bibliography;
- not be exceeding 3.500 words and be accompanied by no more than 7 figures
and tables;
- be sent in electronic format by e-mail to: segreteria@sidp.it.
The submitted paper must be original and not previously published or presented
in any other congresses.
The selected papers will be presented in Italian or English, during the second
day of the International Congress (Rimini, March 15th 2013).
Two of the presented works, one for basic/laboratory research and one in clinical
research, will be awarded the “Henry M. Goldman” Prize and receive the sum of
€ 2,000.
The Prize will be assigned by a Commission composed of an international panel
of experts nominated by the SIdP Executive Board.
If, based on its indisputable judgement, the Commission deems that none of the
papers are especially noteworthy, no prize will be assigned.
The Commission reserves the right to award the available prizes to the two most
qualified papers even if belonging to the same category (clinical research and
basic research).

“MICHELE CAGIDIACO” PRIZE 2013
for Dental Hygienist
The Italian Society of Periodontology establishes the award “MICHELE CAGIDIACO” for the best poster presented at the annual Congress of Dental Hygienists (Rimini, 15th - 16th March 2013).
The official candidate must be a Dental Hygienist. Poster may be co-authored
with other professionals.
The poster should be related to dental hygiene practice based on scientific evidence and centered on the patient, and dealing about:
- Clinical and basic research on issue relating to prevention of periodontal
diseases;
- Series of clinical cases relating to innovative methods of prevention of periodontal diseases;
- Motivation strategies and communication to improve patient compliance in periodontal therapy.
Abstracts must be submitted using the specific form that can be downloaded
from the Italian Society of Periodontology website: www.sidp.it and mailed by
February 8, 2013 to the SIdP Secretary segreteria@sidp.it who will then forward
the abstracts to the Assessment Commission for pre-selection.
Posters accepted to compete will be shown in a dedicated area of the Convention
Center hosting the Congress for Dental Hygienists and will be examined by a Commission composed of both well known academics and private practitioners.
“MICHELE CAGIDIACO” PRIZE 2013
The best poster will be awared the Prize and receive the sum of € 1,000 and
free subscription to the Society for the year 2014.
The winning poster will be presented during the final session of the 2013 Congress of Dental Hygienists (Saturday, March 16th) and will be published on the Italian Society of Periodontology website: www.sidp.it
