SUMMARY
Manages procurement activity for equipment/machinery, supplies, services, and repair and maintenance activities. Also
responsible for procurement of selective goods and services. Plans and directs safety, health, and environmental activities
in industrial plant. May be required to serve as backup for other positions as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Other duties may be assigned.
Purchasing: (60%)
 Manages a vendor base to ensure quality product availability while minimizing costs and maintaining the highest of
service levels to the plant. Includes operating supplies, repair and maintenance support and services.
 Supervises storeroom and procures plant supplies (excluding rod).
 Researches and executes capital appropriation expenditures.
 Manages procurement activity of repair and maintenance goods and services.
 Reconciles invoice discrepancies and approves for payment.
 Manages computer purchasing system.
 Maintains petty cash
Safety: (40%)
Assures safety compliance with federal, state and local regulations, OSHA, Right-to-Know, etc.:
 Conducts visual inspections of plant to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety
regulations.
 Enforces use of safety equipment.
 Develops and monitors emergency action plans.
Conducts and/or coordinates all safety-related programs and training:
 Trains forklift operators to qualify for licensing.
 Conducts safety orientation program for new employees.
 Administers hearing test to employees through an outside vendor.
Conducts or reviews accident investigation and case management of injuries.
Assures environmental compliance issues:
 Tier II
 Reporting requirements on day-to-day issues.
Recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
Other:
May be required to back up other positions as directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Directly supervises 2-4 employees in the Purchasing/Storeroom Department.
Responsibilities include planning, assigning, checking, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and
disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; costs; maintaining quality standards; maintaining
quantity standards; interpreting/shaping policy; and carrying out established policy.
Indirectly supervises all employees to assure safe performance and safe working environment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
The education requirements and experience requirement listed here indicate the minimum basic educational knowledge and
minimum previous work-related experience required by the job duties of the position.
Education:
Professional, technical or administrative training (2-year Associate Degree); knowledge of Federal, State, and local
environmental and safety regulations and knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques.
Experience:
A minimum of 1 year work-related experience is required.
An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
