Easy installation with low costs
Installation of NorMax-switchgear is easy thanks to minimum cubicle width of 500mm. NorMax has several
advantages when customer wants to reduce overall costs of medium voltage switchgear:
• no expensive angled cable termination needed, only odinary indoor cable termination is required
• load switch cubicle has room for surge protectors, no need for special cable termination
• components and cubicles are individually replaceable, no need to replace whole switchgear
Quick and secure investment
Norelco has standard NorMax modules on stock and NorMax can be delivered in short notice. Customized
modules are manufactured upon request at Norelco’s factory. Norelco offers extensive product support and
service. Norelco can also take care of installation of NorMax switchgear if needed.
Technical specification
Type-approved switchgear with confidence
NorMax has been tested in conformity with Finnish and international standards. Norelco takes part SGS

Structure of NorMax
Cubicle type switchgear with partitions
NorMax is a cubicle type switchgear that has partitions separated with metal sheets. The partitions are
divided into 4 different types:
1.. Busbar compartment
• air-insulated space in the top part of the switchgear
• busbar stretches to every cubicle
2. Load switch compartment
• SF6-gas insulated load switch that has 3 positions: on, off and earthed
• gas pressure indicator located on the front panel
3. Cabling compartment
• generous space for cable termination
• spare space for accessories e.g. surge protectors
• mechanically locked door when cubicle is energized
• bottom plate with pass-through holes for cables
• cabling compartment and its door form the lower partition
4. Low-voltage compartment
• contains all monitoring relays and auxiliary components
• optionally contains terminals for control and alarm contacts and tripping coil terminals
• low-voltage and busbar compartments form the upper partition

Easy-to-use control panel
NorMax has a control panel that is very easy and intuitive to operate even if
the user is not yet familiar with NorMax. The user operations are done only
with one lever that is used to operate load-break switch and earthing switch. All user
errors and dangerous functions are prevented mechanically. Also the cabling
compartment door is mechanically locked when the live voltage is present.
The locking mechanism itself has a place for a pad-lock to make switchboard
safe during maintenance. On and Off -operations of load-break switch are
done via push buttons. Loadbreak switch and circuit breaker cubicles have fixed
voltage indicators as standard.
Busbars
Control panel is intuitive and prevents
any dangerous actions.
Busbars between load-break switches are made of round aluminium tube to
minimize risk of short circuit. Cable and measuring cubicles have busbars made of copper. Earthing busbar
is always made of copper.
Structural components
Cubicle frame is made of hot-zinc steel plates that have strong coat of zinc (275g/m2). Surface treatment
is made with powder coating paint. Switchgear has detachable bottom plates that can be removed during
cable installation. Optionally NorMax can be ordered with detachable pedestal fronts.
Main components
Load-break switch makes it all
All cubicles are based on load-break switch. It is SF6-gas insulated load-break switch that
has three positions (on, off, earthed). Load-break switch is always equipped with gas
pressure indicator that is located on the front panel.
Fused load-break switch gives protection to equipment and users
Fused load-break switch has holders for medium voltage fuses. Overcurrent blows the fuse
and causes the load-break switch to trip. The fused load-break switch is equipped with two
earthing switches that ground both sides of the fuse. Changing the fuse is therefore always
safe for user.
Circuit breaker enables versatile supervision and protection
NorMax switchgear uses maintenance-free vacuum circuit breaker that is capable of
working at low ambient temperatures (as low as -40 degrees in Celsius). Alternatively also
other circuit breakers (vacuum or SF6) can be fitted into the circuit breaker cubicle. Norelco
uses reliable overcurrent, short circuit and earth fault current relay protection. Alternative
relay according customer needs can be fitted.

Load-break switch cubicle MaxLo
Load-break switch cubicle is used as an incoming, ring main or branch unit. The
cubicle has SF6-gas insulated load switch with its control device. The main
busbar is air-insulated. To avoid any user error, the switch can only be in one
position: open, closed or earthed. The switch must be in earthed-position in
order to gain access to cabling compartment. All positions are indicated on the
front control panel.
The usage of the load-break switch is simple and all user errors have been prevented mechanically. All control functions are done with a single lever.
The basic structure of the cubicle enables revisions and component change.
Standard equipment
Upper compartment:
• SF6-gas insulated load-break switch with
3 positions
• control device with mechanical position indicators
• metal-enclosed main busbar
• integrated low voltage compartment with door
• locking mechanism
• fixed voltage indicator L1-L3
• SF6-gas pressure indicator
Lower compartment:
• metal-enclosed cabling compartment with
mechanically locked door
• bottom plate with pass-through holes for cables
• earthing busbar
Optional equipment
• auxiliary contacts for open (2no+2nc) and closed
(2no+2nc) position
• arc-pressure release channel
• air insulated surge protectors
• short-circuit indicator with indication
• spring charge motor
• SF6-gas pressure indicator with auxiliary contacts

Fused load-break switch cubicle MaxFu
Fused load-break switch cubicle is used as transformer feeder or protection. The
cubicle has SF6-gas insulated load switch and separate earthing switch with
control device. The main busbar is air-insulated. The fused load-break switch is
equipped with two earthing switches that ground both sides of the fuse.
Changing the fuse is therefore always safe for user. If overcurrent blows one
fuse, it opens all load-break switch contacts (3 phases). To avoid any user error,
the switch can only be in one position: open, closed or earthed. The switch must
be in earthed-position in order to gain access to cabling compartment.
All positions are indicated on the front control panel.

prevented mechanically. All control functions are done with a single lever.
