www.cbs.de/en MBA and EMBA Programmes at Cologne Business School Academic excellence Cologne Business School Who we are The Hallmarks of a CBS Education CBS offrers students a rigorous and forward-minded curriculum, but that is not all. Studying at CBS brings with it a host of benefits. Studying, effectively CBS gives students everything they need for a focused and successful educational experience. The school’s administrative services are numerous, and seminars are small so faculty and students have time for discussing current topics and jointly developing practical solutions. The curriculum emphasizes applied knowledge, leadership training, intercultural understanding, international management, efficiency and responsibility – skills that will accompany students for the entire length of their careers. Cologne Business School Since opening its doors in 1993, the Cologne Business School (CBS) has strove to create curricula that meet the demands of global enterprises and their employees. Now one of Germany’s top schools, CBS is an international, state-licensed institution whose graduates have gone on to become managers and di- PRACTICAL PURPOSE, EXCELLENT JOB PROSPECTS Our experienced professors come from all over the world and use real-life case studies to prepare students for solving reallife problems in their professions. Thanks to our many partnerships with the private sector, business leaders regularly appear on campus to hold lectures and discuss important examples from practice, enriching students’ educations. Our graduates have landed a wide spectrum of positions – at medium-size firms in Germany, in global enterprises and non-profit organisations – and not a few have started their own companies. International Atmosphere Around half of the students enrolled in the MBA and EMBA programmes at CBS come from abroad, forming a rich multicultural campus. Classroom discussions have an interdisciplinary feel, shaped as they are by the different academic paths and work experiences of our students. We aren’t just another degree factory. We provide our students a place to build professional networks, and draw inspiration for their careers. rectors at some of the world’s leading companies. What’s more, the quality of its degree programmes is regularly verified by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation, an agency certified by the German Accreditation Council. Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Fröhlich President of CBS “Being in close touch with the private sector, we know what companies expect from graduates. Our programmes of study are designed to give students what they need to meet the challenges of the global business world.” MBA International Management Leveraging your career opportunities part- time Full-Time fast track 2,5 years 2 years 1 year 120 120 60 english english english General economic teaching units Leadership Skills Training Restricted Course selection Intercultural Skills Restricted Course selection Specialisations - Eligibility for Ph.D. - Duration A premium MBA degree opens up opportunities towards a higher step in many young graduates’ career. Surveys conducted on a global scale have proven for long that an MBA degree is an indispensable prerequisite for accessing managerial functions in a globally acting enterprise. This is why the typical MBA candidates are usually young graduates having a steering function in a company, wishing to assume more responsibility and to acquire comprehensive management, organisational and steering techniques. The study degree offers a rather wide portfolio, for business, and especially Consulting, Marketing, Sales or Human Resource Management. Product Development and Research are two further interesting perspectives. But also Non-Profit Organisations, intergovernmental associations or the increasingly interlinked health economy need staff with managerial competencies thinking outside the box. This is why the MBA Program International Management at CBS is not only targeted to comprehensive specialist skills for tasks in an international business universe, but it also addresses intercultural challenges. The English speaking MBA programme International Management is based on the longstanding experience of the Cologne Business School, founded in 1993. This programme is not only restricted to one subject; International Management is the focal point. Graduates from all areas - in particular in a field other than business – with a first experience on the labour market can enrich their knowledge with well-funded business skills and widen their global perspective. The MBA programme in International Management has three different forms. The full-time programme takes four semesters; the part-time programme takes five semesters; and the fasttrack programme takes only one year. Students who opt for the fast-track programme graduate faster, but they also miss out on many of the extras provided by the standard curriculum, including the ability to pick a specialisation. etcs Study Language Prof. Dr. Alexander Westenbaum Professorship for Management and Human Resources, Director of Administration “The International Management MBA programme is marked by its attractive curriculum which integrates management, economics and soft skills areas. Furthermore, the participants profit from the practically orientated communication and strong international orientation of the programme.” MBA INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT Part-Time At a Glance Study Language: Duration: form of study: english 4 Semesters + Master Thesis Part-Time Start: Winter semester ECTS:120 Qualification: Master of business Administration (MBA) Specialisations You can select respectively from three specialisation options. Sustainability CSR and sustainable management address the goals of an organization in a long-term perspective which takes social, environmental and economic considerations into account. This specialization provides you with a substantial background how to find appropriate solutions for the ‘tripple-bottom-line’ related challenges of the 21st century. Thereby sustainability management cannot only lead to better outcomes for business, but can also make meaningful contributions to the economic and social development of societies. To achieve this target CBS will draw your attention to a supply chain understanding which impacts to the natural environment in terms of supporting environmental performance change. Identified supply chain risks lead to an increasing use of environmental requirements being cascaded from supplier to customer and you have to understand how the various partners in the supply chain may harm companies’ reputation. The third lecture develops your ability to incorporate sustainability in strategic finance related decisions like investing, divesting, or financing. Sustainable financial management is the call of the times. The recent developments in the capital markets have brought it to the fore. To ensure survival now, companies must adopt policies that are sustainable. Business Psychology The field of business psychology is increasingly important for businesses today. Whether in marketing, market research, human resources or corporate communication, companies want employees who are not only professionally qualified but psychologically astute. They should also understand human motivation, effective communication and how perceptions influence behaviour. Students who choose a specialisation in business psychology at CBS acquire the kind of interdisciplinary skills that set them apart from the competition. An introductory course teaches the most important subjects and methods of business psychology. A second course delves into social psychology and its applications in the work world. A consumer psychology seminar addresses subjects that are crucial for market research and advertising. Students who complete a specialisation in business psychology are qualified to work in a variety of fields, including marketing and human resources, coaching, training, media research and business consulting. Entrepreneurship / Innovation Management The specialisation in entrepreneurship/innovation management is designed for students who plan to start or are in the process of starting their own business, or who generally seek employment in an area that demands innovative and entrepreneurial thinking. The curriculum begins with the foundations of entrepreneurship in existing organisations. A second course allows participants to play the role of an entrepreneur and familiarises them with strategies for creating and assessing business ideas and for developing business plans. The specialisation concludes with a course on the strategic importance of innovation for a lasting competitive edge. Students also learn methods to foster a company’s innovative potential and translate their ideas into marketable goods and services.
