How to...

Getting started
When getting started for the first time
remember:
• From home, press *98, or from elsewhere enter
your access number.
• Your temporary password is the last 7 digits of
your telephone number.
• Your new password should be 4 to 15 digits.

Change number of rings

you want the phone to ring before taking messages
(0 to 9).
Change your personal greeting
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to
the voice prompts in the following order: 4, 3, 1, 2,
record, #.
Change your recorded name or phone
number
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to
the voice prompts in the following order: 4, 3, 3,
new name, #.
Change your password
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to
the voice prompts in the following order: 4, 2, 1
(4, 2, 1, 1 for Call Answer Message Manager
subscribers), new password, #.
Speed up voice prompt level
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to
the voice prompts in the following order: 4, 2, 3,
then 1 for Standard or 2 for Extended or 3 for Rapid.
Turn off service...
so calls aren’t transferred to your voice mailbox
Enter *93, then hang up after 2 beeps. To turn it
back on enter *92, then hang up after 2 beeps.

Sample greetings:
“Hello, you’ve reached the Smith residence.
We can't come to the phone at the moment.
Please leave a message after the tone and
we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Turn off service... when the line is busy
– so callers hear a busy signal
Enter *91, then hang up after 2 beeps. To turn it
back on enter *90, then hang up after 2 beeps.

Troubleshooting
Allows you to Send, Reply or Forward messages
to friends, even if they don't have a voice mailbox.
Pay-per-use charges apply 3. Free within your province with
Call Answer Message Manager service 4 (see reverse).
Compose and send a message
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to the
voice prompts in the following order: 2, record your
message, # then 1 + 10 digits of recipient’s number.
Forward a message
Enter 6 after playback and record your message.
Press # then 1 + 10 digits of recipient’s number.
Reply to a message
Enter 8 after playback and record your message.
Press # and follow the voice prompts.
Create a distribution list 5
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to
the voice prompts in the following order: 4, 2, 2,
then create, delete or correct a list.
Select a delivery option
At the end of each message you may select one of
the following four delivery options by entering 0
when prompted “continue options” or # to send
message immediately:
Delivery options:
1. Private prevents re-forwarding of the message to others.
2. Urgent ensures priority treatment of the message.
3. Confirm 6: advises you within 2 days whether the
message has been retrieved or not.
4. Future Delivery: enables you to pre-record a message
for delivery at a later date.

Pay-per-use charges per recipient are 15¢ within your province, 40¢ to the rest of Canada,
$1.50 to the United States, and $2.50 to some international destinations (any destination
that has an international dialling code of “1”). Prices may be subject to change.
4 Free within your province with the subscription to Call Answer Message Manager
service. Pay per use charges to other destinations will apply. Only works with main
mailbox for Call Answer Message Manager service subscribers.
5 Charges are applied for each number on the distribution list.
6 You will be charged the same amount as amount charged for sending a message.
Receipt confirmation is not supported when sending to a non-voicemail subscriber.
Note A: Messaging subscriber’s mailbox number will be revealed when sending a Universal Message.
Note B: Messages to non-voice mail subscriber will be delivered Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to
8 p.m.; Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. The recipient’s phone will
ring during these periods.

Follow these steps to set up the option
To program or change the message notification
schedule: Enter *98 followed by your password,
then 4, 4. Next, follow the instructions for entering
your pager number, notification schedule and other
preferences. Ensure you press 1, 1 when prompted
to turn on Outcall Notification.
To turn it off, enter *98 followed by your password,
respond to your voice prompts in the following
order: 4, 1, 2.
For example: To be notified between 10 a.m. and
3:30 p.m., enter the times as follows: 1000 then 1 for
a.m. and 330 then 2 for p.m. To be notified 24 hours
a day, enter 1200 then 1 (for a.m.) and 1200 then 1
(for a.m.).

The message will be forwarded to your friend’s mailbox
without ringing her phone. And she can reply the same way.
I can't connect to Internet because of interrupted dial tone,
or I don’t hear the interrupted dial tone any more or see
a flashing light when I have messages.
➣ Clear your messages or turn message waiting indicator off
by dialling *98, your password, 4, 1, 4. To turn it back on
enter *98, password, 4, 1, 3.
The voice mail for the person I’m calling is full.
➣ You’ll have to contact the person again later. Dialling 0
will not provide assistance.
My Call Answer service no longer takes messages when
I’m on the phone.
➣ The *91 feature is likely turned on, thus disabling
service when you’re on the phone. To restore service as
before, pick up the receiver, press *90, then hang up
when you hear the 2 beeps.
My Call Answer service no longer takes messages when
I can’t get to the phone.
➣ The *93 feature is likely turned on, thereby preventing
Call Answer service from taking messages when you’re
unavailable. To restore service as before, pick up the
receiver, press *92, then hang up when you hear the
2 beeps.
Hints & Tips
Skip another Call Answer subscriber’s greeting
Press # at the start of their greeting and leave your
message after the tone.
To retrieve messages: Access your mailbox following the same steps as you normally do.
Change your mind and change your message
Note: The message indicator (flashing light and interrupted dial tone) only works on your regular wired
phone. When you use your mobile phone, no indication
is provided when you have a message waiting.
Know who called and when
When you finish recording a message for another
subscriber, press 1 and follow the prompts.
Press 5 during playback or at the end of the message
to get the time and date, the length of the message
and the caller’s number (if available).
Skip to the end of the message
Pressing 3, 3 will bring you to the end of the message.
Then you can reply, forward, erase or save it.

No time to chat?
I’ve forgotten my password.
➣ For main mailbox, call 611 from home.
➣ For Extension Mailboxes, delete affected extension and
repeat set-up procedure.

After the short ring, pick up the receiver and listen.
Intercept the message and speak to the caller by pressing
the switchhook, Link, or flash button or hang up and
let the service record the message.
Retrieve messages from anywhere...
... and save time or possibly a long distance charge by
determining with the number of rings when there are
new messages
Before leaving home, enter *97 and hang up after 2 beeps
to turn the feature on. When you call to check for new
messages:
1. If Call Answer Message Manager service kicks in after
2 rings, you have new messages. When you hear your
greeting, press 9.
2. If you have no new messages, it kicks in after the fourth
ring. Hang up before connecting to avoid long distance
charges and/or pay phone charges.
To turn this feature off upon return: Enter *97. Hang up
after 4 beeps.
Listen to all your messages back-to-back ∆
Enter *98 followed by your password. Respond to the voice
prompts in the following order: 4, 2, 6, 1. To turn it off:
4, 2, 6, 2.
Quick Tip
You can erase or save your message during the pause in
playback (even if you don’t hear the prompts saying to save
or to erase).
Harness the power of your screenphone 10...
... view a list of messages received and listen to them
in any order
With a compatible screenphone, you can take advantage
of this feature by calling 1 877 611-1010 and following
the instructions. Then, press the “Message” soft key on
your screen to use the feature.
Abbreviations used: V: vocal; N: new; S: saved; P: private; A: am; P: pm; M: minute;
S: second; Date: Y/M/D; !: urgent.

Playback controls
Lets you enjoy the benefits of separate mailboxes, without the
cost. With the Extension Mailboxes feature you can add up
to 3 more extension voice mailboxes to your main mailbox.

Setting up an Extension Mailbox:
• Enter *98, password, 4, 9, enter the extension mailbox number (1, 2 or 3). The system will assign a password, which you
can keep or change by following the voice prompts.
• Record the extension mailbox user name, press #, # if
you are satisfied or press * to re-record.
• Select the system greetings by pressing 1, or record your
own greetings: press 2, record your message, #,
# if you are satisfied or press * to re-record.
• If necessary, record the main mailbox greeting, making
sure to mention each user’s name and mailbox number.
• Press 2 to add or delete an extension mailbox. If you are
adding a mailbox repeat the above steps to record the
password and greeting, press * to exit.

Confirmation of personal information

Checking and retrieving messages:
With Extension Mailboxes feature you can determine
which extension mailbox has messages simply by
pressing 0 once you are in the main menu.
Cancel
To retrieve the messages in a mailbox:
*98, password for the desired mailbox. If you retrieve your
messages using a payphone, you can avoid paying charges
each time you access a different mailbox. After listening to
the message in a mailbox, press *, to return to the main
menu, press 5, press #, enter the mailbox number and
your password.
