HYDROVAR ® – the intelligent and user friendly speed controller for pumps!
HYDROVAR ® is a pump or wall-mounted variable speed, microprocessor based system controller, and was the world’s first of its type to manage motor speed and match pump performance to a range of hot and cold water applications.
Due to the unique modular design the HYDROVAR ® unit can be mounted or retrofitted to any existing centrifugal pump which has a standard IEC motor.
This is the long-awaited solution for high-level installations requiring failsafe systems with a superior range of features, while its modularity also provides a cost-effective solution for low-level, reduced feature demands.
The HYDROVAR ® needs no additional master control and enables virtually any configuration of pumps: up to master drives or a mix of master and slave drives.
The units are available in powers from , - kW.
The HYDROVAR ® does much more than just change the motor speed. It truly manages your pump performance to match a wide range of system conditions, allowing energy savings up to 0% approved by TUEV Austria)*

Energy savings
Energy saving is a large issue within the heating and ventilating market and within the ITT product portfolio we can offer a variable speed drive, the HYDROVAR ® . A unique parameter gives the HYDROVAR ® an added advantage. This parameter allows the pump to follow a system curve, the minimum system head is set together with the maximum and the pump will then operate between these two points. This option has been specifically developed for use in the heating industry as it allows the user to save up to 0% energy costs over a fixed speed pump. Due to the energy saving capabilities of the HYDROVAR ® the unit has achieved the high requirements set by the Energy Saving Trust to allow ITT to promote the
HYDROVAR ® product.

The HYDROVAR ® utilises a - 0A signal to regulate the motor speed in order to meet the system requirements. By controlling the pump in this way the user can make substantial savings in comparison to conventionally controlled systems.
Retro-fitting
The HYDROVAR ® speed controller can be mounted or retrofitted to any existing centrifugal pump manufacturer’s unit, which has a standard IEC motor. The units are available in powers from .–kW. The units can be mounted directly on to the pump motor (horizontal or vertical) or can be wall mounted. The HYDROVAR ® can also be connected by cable to another control system with microprocessor, using the RS- database located on the main terminal board under the cover. This enables the HYDROVAR ® system to send information about the system conditions to an external unit, and to be controlled from a distance.
HYDROVAR ® booster sets
The HYDROVAR® allows up to units to be interfaced together which offers the user ultimate flexibility. The pumps have an automatic cyclic changeover facility and in the case of failure the remaining pump/s take up the duty.

Horizontal multistage pump with closed, radial type impellers
The history of more than 00 years of pump manufacturing has brought a lot of successful applications all over the world.
Some remarkable case stories of the recent past are listed below:
This application required pumps that exhibited total quality, with reliability and resilience assured. The Vogel pumps selected feature in the dramatic entertainment zone – Aquatheater - of MS Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise liner. Here a 000-seat amphitheatre cradles a swimming pool by day and theatre for spectacular water shows by night. Behind the scenes Vogel LSB pumps feed all of the effects, from water jets and wave splashes to a water screen with around
000 nozzles.
The pumps vary in capacity from 0 to 0m/h, heads between 0 and m and motor power from . to 0kW.
Manufactured in Duplex stainless steel and mechanical seals, the pumps can handle chlorinated or salt water, and the close coupled block design was chosen to minimise space used.
A similar suite of pumps is operating in sister vessel MS
Allure of the Sea, both cruising through the Caribbean sea.
When the hottest skiing spots in Europe can’t cool down, ITT comes to the rescue.
Vogel-brand pumps are producing artificial snow for half the ski resorts in Austria and some of the most popular slopes in
Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland and Macedonia.
Depending on the size of the resort, anywhere from one dozen to two dozen Vogel-brand multistage pumps are installed in pumping stations near rivers, creeks and other natural water sources at the base of the slopes. They push water at high pressures and in large quantities up the mountains – through underground pipelines - to the snow guns positioned around the ski runs. Multistage pumps are the only types of pumps that can handle the steep moun- tain climbs, and ITT has been proving it’s up to the challenge for more than 0 years.
There is one thing that ITT shares with the greatest engineering innovators, and that is continuous investment into new product development. This can be seen at the spectacular development of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai – the world’s tallest manmade structure. Several water transfer sets ( – 00kW) and water booster sets ( – kW) utilising vertical and horizontal multistage pumps, series MP (00 – 00kW) are in charge of a smooth water supply of this m tall giant. The water system is supplying on average 9,000 litres of water per day, plus water that is gathered from condensation from the cooling system. The water booster sets are fitted with Hydrovar to ensure the water flow rate meets demand so the motors run efficiently and that energy is not wasted.
