EVALUATION BOARD FOR VIDEO SWITCHING ZLE8816 PRODUCT PREVIEW The ZLE8816 evaluation board provides a quick and easy method for evaluating the MT8816 8x16 analog switch array for video switching applications. The evaluation board supports the ZLAN-268 reference design, collaborative developed with CADEKA Microcircuits. The reference design meets all application requirements for low bandwidth analog video switching to connect up to 16 video camera feeds with eight output devices, including monitors and recording systems. The fully buffered 8 x 16 crosspoint switch matrix reference design utilizes CADEKA’s CLC2005 dual channel video amplifier, and Zarlink’s MT8816 8x16 analog switch array. Both devices operate from a single 5 volt (V) supply, providing a significant competitive advantage versus many ±5 V solutions used today. The CLC2005 buffers the inputs of the MT8816 and provides gain and drive capability for each MT8816 output. Each channel of the CLC2005 can drive three video loads, allowing for increased system capability. The MT8816 offers designers ease-of-use and flexibility by providing eight inputs that can be switched to any of the16 outputs, or 16 inputs that can be switched to any of the eight outputs. The ZLE8816 evaluation platform includes a populated PCB, a CD containing software for programming the MT8816 from a PC and product data sheets. Operation and channel selection is easily accomplished by using the USB port. Features Emulates a complete 16 x 8 video switcher Simple and easy to use PC controlled channel selection Optional simple manual control with no PC required Configured for buffed inputs and buffed outputs Configured for 75 W environments Applications Video switches and routers Security systems Video Conferencing More Information For more information on the ZLAN-268 reference design and ZLE8816 demonstration kit, please visit http://www. zarlink.com/zarlink/hs/82_ZLE8816.htm ZLE8816 EVALUATION BOARD FOR VIDEO SWITCHING APPLICATION Video Surveillance System using Zarlink Analog Switches Figure 1 shows a typical operating circuit of a video surveillance system using Zarlink’s analog cross-point switches. The analog cross-point switches allow multiple video sources switched to multiple output devices, such as video monitors and video recorders. External video amplifiers are required as the input buffers and output buffers to drive the video loads. Figure 2 illustrates the major components of the ZLE8816 evaluation board. In the center is Zarlink’s MT8816 16x8 analog cross-point IC. At the left are 16 video input buffers from CADEKA (CLC2005). At the right hand side are 8 video output buffers from CADEKA (CLC2005) and each buffer is capable of driving a 75 ohm video load directly. BNC connectors are provided for all video inputs and video outputs. A FT245R USB FIFO from Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) provides a standard USB interface for a PC. Through this USB connection the PC controls the programming of the evaluation board.
