They encompass a wide array of talent and competencies. The industrial base includes researchers, engineers, technicians, mechanics, skilled machinists and precision production jobs. Jobs Arkansas’ aerospace, aviation and defense industry employs nearly 10,000 Arkansans. Economic Impact Aerospace is Arkansas’s number one export, accounting for more than $1.8 Billion. Commercial airports generate $2 billion to Arkansas’ economy each year, and general aviation alone creates an economic impact on Arkansas of almost $500 million annually. The organization began in 2006 as a Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission task force and was organized into the alliance in 2012 by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce/Associated Industries of Arkansas with input from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC). Mission The mission of the Arkansas Aerospace & Defense Alliance is to promote the growth and sustainability of the state’s aerospace, aviation and defense industries by: • Creating business opportunities • Inspiring global competition • Facilitating the development of key relationships • Providing education • Encouraging public policies that are beneficial to the industry Legislative Caucus There are approximately 180 aviation and aerospace-related companies in the state. In 2013, the Arkansas General Assembly formed the legislature’s first Aerospace and Aviation Caucus. The mission of the caucus is to educate legislators and highlight the aerospace, aviation and defense industries and their economic impact on Arkansas. Airports Join Today! There are 91 publicly-owned/publicly-used general aviation and community airports within the State of Arkansas, eight of which have airline services. The Alliance is a full-time advocate for the entire aerospace industry and serves as an effective resource for your individual company or organization. Whether its representing your needs at the Arkansas Legislature or facilitating dynamic networking opportunities and professional development, an Alliance membership is the most valuable way to promote your business and become an influential industry leader. Companies Education Arkansas leads the South in aerospace education, offering a wide variety of certification programs and degrees. Students can participate in career training programs focused on aerospace technology and manufacturing, become a professional pilot, obtain 4-year degrees in aviation and engineering and even earn their Masters or Ph.D. The Arkansas Aerospace Training Consortium is a collaborative effort among the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges (AATYC) and nine community colleges to increase aviation and aerospace course offerings. ABOUT THE ALLIANCE The Arkansas Aerospace & Defense Alliance is a group of public and private aerospace companies, government agencies and educational institutions dedicated to growing the aerospace, aviation and defense infrastructure in Arkansas and training a qualified workforce. The state’s comprehensive transportation system can easily move bulk commodities and consumer goods. Many of Arkansas’s port locations have railway connections that provide a smooth transition for various modes of transportation and quick delivery. Arkansas’s transportation network and central U.S. location define the state as a strategic distribution center. Midway between Mexico City and Montreal, Arkansas offers a valuable distribution advantage. Arkansas’s intermodal transportation network of highways, railways, air routes, waterways and pipelines is ideally suited to meet the needs of business. These facilities provide easy access to U.S. markets and the world. Economy Arkansas is proud of the eight homegrown Fortune 500 companies headquartered here: ArcBest Corporation, Dillard’s, J.B. Hunt, Murphy Oil Corp., Murphy USA, Tyson Foods, Walmart and Windstream. Many Arkansas companies and communities are making headlines: • CNBC’s “Top States for Business 2014” ranked Arkansas’s cost of doing business as the second lowest in the nation. • Cost for industrial electricity was 5th lowest in the country in 2014, according to the Institute for Energy Research, in its 2013 report, “Arkansas: An Energy and Economic Analysis.” • CNBC ranked the Arkansas workforce in 2014 as 19th best in America. • In 2014, wages in Arkansas were, on the average, 53% lower than the national average. • Arkansas’s education system ranked fifth in the nation in Education Week’s “Quality Counts” report for 2013. • In 2013, Forbes named Fayetteville, Little Rock, and Fort Smith among the top MSAs in the U.S. for Business and Careers. • Arkansas-based Wal-Mart was included among Fortune’s Most Admired Companies in 2013. Higher Education The state of Arkansas is home to 11 four-year public universities, 11 four-year private colleges and universities, and 22 two-year public colleges. Climate The weather in Arkansas is mild and typically pleasant. No matter what time of year you plan on visiting Arkansas, you’ll find The Natural State offering beautiful scenic views and plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure. With four distinct, yet temperate, seasons, Arkansas is the perfect year-round vacation destination. Spring and fall are particularly mild with the most extreme temperatures occurring in late summer when days are hot and humid and during winter months when temperatures occasionally dip into the teens or below. Weather in Arkansas often changes dramatically due to surrounding weather influences. When two or more weather systems merge, clouds form, temperature changes and precipitation often follows. Arkansas’s central location allows weather systems from all directions to influence its climate. Why Others Choose Arkansas for Relocation From the Delta to the Ozark Mountains, Arkansas is an incredible place to live. Some are enchanted by the stunning scenery, others enjoy the four distinct seasons and still others are fond of the convenience the state provides and the fact that Arkansas is one of the most affordable states to live in. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that a love of Arkansas runs deep in the hearts of those who call it home. Cost of Living in Arkansas How Much Bang for the Buck in The Natural State?
