About Leader Products
Incorporated in 1948, Leader Products is
a specialist manufacturer and distributor
of livestock identification systems and
wholesale distributor of an extensive
range of veterinary and animal husbandry
products.
In 1950, we entered the livestock
identification business in Australia by
introducing the first plastic ear tags for
sheep. By 1956, we had established
ourselves as the predominant supplier
of tags to the Australian and New
Zealand sheep industries. In the 1960s,
we ventured into the production of
cattle tags, culminating in our patenting
our own two-piece ear tag in the 1980s.
Since then, we have been instrumental in
incorporating technology into all types of
livestock identification tags, making us a
recognised world leader in this arena.
We are solely Australian owned and
operated. As well as having a branch
in New Zealand, we have extensive
overseas representation in the UK and
US, South Africa, Japan, Europe, Chile,
Mexico and Canada. Our products
reach all stock owners, both in Australia
and overseas, and are used to fill many
government contracts. We are also
an approved supplier for the National
Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS).
Continuing in our spirit of innovation,
we are committed to supplying leadingedge livestock identification and animal
husbandry products.

RFID (radio frequency identification)
RFID Overview
What is RFID?
International Systems
Tamperproof or Reusable
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is
a lifelong tagging method that allows
livestock to be tracked with electronic
devices, or RFID Readers.
Leadertronic devices are also approved
by the AHB New Zealand, the CCIA
Canada and the MAFF in the United
Kingdom. USDA (United States
Department of Agriculture) has approved
the Leadertronic for use in the NAIS
program.
Leadertronic Tags are either Tamperproof
or Reusable. Tamperproof tags ensure a
higher level of security, and reusable tags
are used to provide cost efficiencies.
RFID products come in two forms – ear
tags, with in-built radio transponders,
and boluses, an inert ceramic device
that is inserted and retained in the
animals stomach. Boluses are usually
accompanied with a Flexible Ear Tag to
indicate the animal is carrying a bolus.
What information can be monitored
with RFID?
Animal ownership, ageing, weight
monitoring and breeding programs
NLIS approved
In Australia, the National Livestock
Identification System (NLIS) enables
individual animals to be tracked from
property of birth to slaughter for food
safety, product integrity and market
access purposes. More information about
the system can be found on the MLA
website.
Durable Design
Leadertronic Tags are made of durable
plastic encapsulating ISO transponders
and are designed for life-long retention.
Boluses are designed to be easily
inserted and are made of inert ceramic
encapsulating ISO HDX (half-duplex)
transponders. The newly developed
Leader EID Tag is a 1-piece tag based on
the trusted design of the Leader tag.
Versatility
The 2-piece ear tagging systems allows
you to combine any the Female RFID
components with male components form
the Flexible Tag range. Simply apply
with the Flexible Tag applicators you are
familiar with.
Easy to apply
Leadertronic tags can be fitted with
Applicators from our long-established
Flexible Tag Applicator range: Aluminium
Fast Tagger, Plastic Fast Tagger and the
Standard Flexible Tag Applicator.
Leader EID Tags are applied with the
Leadermatic for EID Tags. Boluses are
simple to apply with the HDX Cattle
Bolus Applicator and HDX Sheep Bolus
Applicator.
Laser Marking
Our laser marking system makes for
permanent marking with the laser mark
impregnating the tag and becoming part
of the tag.
Laser Marking allows you to print almost
anything onto your tags – Farm name,
Property number, Transponder number
and Mandatory Government markings.
The Leadertronic HDX Tags are popular
due to high visibility of numbers –
markings are in a straight line.

Leadertags – Overview
Leaders in the field
For Better Stock Management
Leader Products started in the livestock
identification business in 1950 with the
introduction of the first plastic ear tags for
sheep which evolved into the patented
“Leadertag” ID system for sheep.
Hundreds of millions of Leadertags have
been sold worldwide.
Use a different colour for each age
group to save time when drafting for
each age and gender. Place Leadertags
on opposite ears for ewes and wethers
making drafting of sex easy and accurate.
For Long Term Application
Leadertags have stronger arms and a
positive self-locking design. A curved
recess holds tag in correct position at
all times. The tags are constructed from
a specially formulated material and the
cross section gives greater strength.
Quick application
Tags are applied in a single action with
the Leadermatic applicator (in plastic or
aluminium). Using these applicators is up
to 60% faster than previous methods.
Need a Larger tag?
For larger animals or when a greater
surface-area is required for Stamp
information, use Jumbo Leadertags.
