Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen on New Fibre Cement Sheet (FC) [Exterior] AUSD2539 Description DULUX WEATHERSHIELD® Low Sheen provides long lasting exterior decoration and protection for various substrates including Fibre Cement Sheeting. Substrate And Substrate Preparation Substrate Notes: Compressed Fibre Cement. Fibre cement sheeting is manufactured from cement and cellulose fibre. This type of sheeting is used as an external lining material fixed to metal or timber framing. This product is to be installed as per the manufactures fixing manual. Compressed fibre cement sheeting is a high density grey board available in a range of thickness (typically from 8.5mm to 24mm) used generally on commercial facades with no recess on the edges. These sheets are generally installed with expressed joints backed with a neoprene weather strip. Some Compressed Fibre cement sheeting may be pre primed to ensure that the glossy side is fixed to the framework. Substrate Preparation Notes: PCC050 - CFC Sheet ( Titan Board, CFC, Express Wall, Villaboard ) NEW ASSESS SUITABLILITY Ensure that the CFC products are installed as per the manufacturers current installation/fixing manuals. Timber framing must comply with AS 1684 National Framing Code (current edition) and metal framing must comply with AS 3623 Domestic Framing Code (current edition). Use only plastic angles and corrosion resistant fixings. REMOVE CONTAMINANTS Ensure that the surface is clean, sound, dry and free of any dust, dirt, mould, fungus, grease or other contaminants. Remove dust with a stiff broom or as appropriate. Treat mould if present. SAND Sand off any raised imperfections and sand off sharp edges to a minimum of 2mm radius to ensure that the recommended paint film thickness is achieved on the edges. Fill imperfections with a suitable repair mortar and ensure a flush finish. Allow 24 hours to cure. Recheck surface to ensure that the surface is clean, sound and dry, and in every way ready to receive the coating system. PRIME Prime CFC sheeting on all edges and both sides if possible) to prevent moisture ingress and to prevent bowing of the sheet. Joint filling and sealing must must not be carried out before priming. TREATMENT OF EXPRESSED JOINTS WHERE TEXTURE IS TO BE APPLIED: Fill and seal the primed joint with a paintable polyurethane joint sealant and allow to cure. Mask off joint, then apply texture coating according to directions. Immediately remove masking tape whilst the texture coating is still wet to create a clean texture line. Tape will be permanently embedded in the texture if the texture is allowed to dry before attempted removal of the tape. When Texture has fully cured, apply specified topocat over entire surface, including joint sealant. WHERE AN ELASTOMERIC COATING IS TO BE APPLIED: No masking is required. WHERE AN INFLEXIBLE COATING IS TO BE APPLIED (EG TWO PACK): Apply all coatings as specified to CFC sheeting, including joints, and allow to fully cure BEFORE any joint filling and sealing is carried out. Stir contents thoroughly before and during use with a broad flat stirrer, using an upward lifting action. Brush/Roller: Soak brush or roller in water before starting and use while still slightly damp. *Over bare timber, apply 3 coats of Weathershield. On bare galvanised iron within 1km of the sea, apply one coat of Dulux All Metal Primer followed by 2 topcoats of Weathershield. On bare steel apply one coat of Dulux All Metal Primer followed by 2 topcoats of Weathershield. On all other surfaces, including brick, masonry and prepainted surfaces, 2 coats only are required. For Weathershield Chromamax Pigment Bases (True Red, Bold Yellow, Orange, Blue and Extra Bright bases), to ensure excellent durability and opacity it is essential to apply a coat of Dulux 1 Step Acrylic Primer Sealer Undercoat prior to the application of two topcoats of Weathershield. However, if the surface is previously painted in a pale colour and is in sound condition no primer is required. Professional Painters refer to Duspec Specification Sheets to qualify for guarantee. Under hot or very windy conditions, up to 100 ml/litre of DULUX Hot Weather Thinner may be added to ease application. Airless or Conventional Spray: Suitable for application by all standard spray equipment. Apply wet even coats. If necessary thin with up to 100 ml/litre water to aid atomisation. To avoid "Picture Framing" of texture topcoats "wet on wet" cutting in & coating technique is recommended or apply multiple coats thinning the first coat. Do not apply paint if the temperature is below 10°C or likely to fall below 10°C during the drying period. Practical spreading rates will vary from the quoted theoretical figures depending on the nature of the surface, application method and environmental conditions.
