FLYNN MARINE PARK EDIC PROJECT NO. 1287 April 22, 2016 The attention of bidders submitting proposals for the above referenced project is called to the following Addendum to the plans (Drawings) and specifications. The items set forth herein, whether of omission, addition, substitution, or other change, are all to be included in, and form a part of the Proposed Contract Documents for the work. Inclusion of this Addendum must be acknowledged by inserting its number on Page FGB-1 of the document entitled "Form for General Bid". Failure to acknowledge any and all addenda in the above specified bid form may be cause for rejection of the bids by the Owner on the grounds that it is not responsive. The addendum consists of four (4) pages, and two (2) attachments. ADDENDUM ITEMS 1. RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS QUESTION: Drawing 13 is referenced for calculation of sheet pile penetrations, there is no data on sheet 13 which would allow the contractor to correlate the datum referenced to the new work datum and allow for a calculation of sheet pile tip. Please provide the datum cross reference information or provide a minimum tip or a sheet pile length. RESPONSE: The top of the existing curb is Elevation 116.5 referencing the datum on Drawing 13 QUESTION: The specifications indicate that DCAMM Certification is a special condition requirement. Is DCAM certification an absolute requirement to bid on this Project? RESPONSE: DCAMM Certification is not required for this Project. QUESTION: Drawing sheet 8 referencing the Flap Gate detail; the detail shows a 15” drain and an 8” outfall, which is correct? RESPONSE: An 8” diameter outfall and gate are required. QUESTION: There are several manhole covers visible in the street immediately behind the V-1 bulkhead within the excavation limits, please confirm that these are to be removed. QUESTION: Special provisions for paving indicate that pavement base is paid under the paving item “as specified herein…”. The base that is to be paid under the paving item is not defined within the specification, therefore please clarify which item the 6” Granular Fill Aggregate Sub-base and 6” Sand Gravel Fill Aggregate Base course is to be paid under. RESPONSE: The gravel base and sub-base shall be included under Item No. 02513-1 BITUMINOUS PAVING. See Addendum Item 2.4 below. QUESTION: Please confirm that structural fill under sidewalks and is paid under item 22201 Imported Borrow. RESPONSE: The fill shall be paid for under Item 03301-1. See Addendum Item 3.2 below. QUESTION: What item is the granite curb and appurtenances paid under? RESPONSE: The curb and appurtenances shall be paid for under Item 03301-1. See Addendum Item 3.2 below. QUESTION: Borings are essential for designing the falsework; are there any borings available for this purpose? RESPONSE: Existing subsurface boring data is provided in the technical specifications as Attachment C to Section 01000. QUESTION: Is the intent of the design that the V-1 bulkhead be concrete filled before being backfilled? RESPONSE: The Contractor will likely need to backfill and place concrete concurrently as to not overstress the existing bulkhead. Should the Contractor elect to place the concrete prior to backfilling, no additional payment will be made for concrete which enters the excavation area slated for soil backfilling. QUESTION: What is the maximum load anticipated by the designer for the proposed tie rod extension? RESPONSE: As per Section 05500 – Miscellaneous Metals, subsection 1.06B, “Tensile testing of two (2) tie rod extensions will be completed to confirm an allowable tensile capacity of 60 kips on the tie rod extensions…” Parcel V-1/Pier 5 Bulkhead Repairs EDIC Project No. 1287 Addendum No. 1 PAGE 2 of 4 2. DRAWINGS Item 2.1: Clarification: Drawing 6.0, Section B, the note states “existing steel sheet piles cut at mudline”. The existing sheet piles have been cut to facilitate the installation of the existing drainage and do not need to be cut for this project. Item 2.2: Clarification: Drawing 7.0, note states “move all jersey barriers to storage area at 3 Dolphin Way, Boston, MA”. The barriers shall be relocated by the Contractor and stored along the fence, as coordinated with the EDIC and as shown in the attached aerial locus map for 3 Dolphin Way. Item 2.3: Drawing 5.0, Section A: Delete note: Demolish existing concrete pile cap and steel wale. Item 2.4: Drawing 6.0, Section A: Replace note: ‘Demo and remove existing reinforced concrete pile cap except at drainage headwall (sta 1+10 to 1+30)” with “Demo and remove existing reinforced concrete pile cap to facilitate the installation of the proposed reinforced concrete sidewalk, full length, up to 12” deep.” Item 2.5: Clarification: Drawing 5.0, Section A: The cross section indicates a 6” thick granular sub-base course and 6” thick sand gravel fill aggregate base course. It is the intent of the contract to reuse the existing soils as the base and sub-base courses to the extent possible, and to supplement the with the material shown as required to achieve the proposed finished grades. 3. SPECIFICATIONS Item 3.1: Form for General Bid, Item 03301-1 Concrete Sidewalks: Quantity changed from “46cy” to “580 lf”. CONCRETE SIDEWALKS shall be paid for under Item 03301-1, which price shall include full compensation for preparation, demolition and removal, cleaning, concrete forming, reinforcement, concrete bonding agent, concrete placement, curing, jointing, ADA Concrete Ramps, structural base fill, granite curbing, curb cuts, the furnishing of all labor, materials, tools and equipment, and all other incidental work necessary to complete the work under this item, as shown on the Drawings, and as herein specified.
