Early thoughts/remarks:
Corn planting advanced +15% this week to 88% - only -6% off the five year average
Missouri still lagging severely – expect this remainder will be planted to soybeans?
Ohio and Indiana surprisingly behind – this is different then what weather patterns imply?
Iowa mostly caught up – east still seeing some planting
Illinois could be problematic – 87% complete – check the southern areas
Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin all advanced between 24 and 30% this week
Emergence still behind – cold weather forecast this week unlikely to help matters
Only 52% emerged, -24% behind the five year average due to rains/cold
Significant re-planting expected, which could impact overall yields in affected areas
Soybeans at 52% planted, jumping +25% - now only -15% off the five year average
Iowa put an additional +38% of the soybean crop in the ground
Minnesota and Nebraska also progressing nicely, indicating farmers are mostly done with corn
Sorghum planting on pace
Cotton catching up - +22% advancement this week
First Spring Wheat Condition number of the year – 7% P-VP, 52% G-E
Emergence numbers good considering late start
Winter Wheat conditions improved – dropping -2% from P-VP, adding +2% to G-E
HRW accrued most of the gains – Kansas up sharply (+6% G-E)
SRW improved slightly – gains in Arkansas, Ohio more than offset a marked decline in Illinois
