Emergency Ballasts
DESCRIPTION
Emergency ballasts allow the same fluorescent (or compact fluorescent) lighting fixture to be used for both
normal and emergency operation. In the event of a power failure, the ballast switches into emergency mode
and operates one or two of the existing lamps for a minimum of ninety (90) minutes. When AC power is
restored, the ballast automatically returns to charging mode. The unit contains a maintenance-free nickel
cadmium battery, charger, and inverter circuit in a single package. The ballast can be mounted in the wireway
or on top of the fixture, and is UL listed for factory installation or retrofit applications.
It is also compatible with most electronic, standard, and energy-saving AC ballasts. If used in an emergencyonly fixture, no AC ballast is necessary. This ballast is not suitable for use in air handling heated air outlets,
and wet or hazardous location fixtures.

This emergency ballast will sense the AC power failure and automatically switch to Emergency Mode. One
lamp is illuminated, at recuced output, for a minimum of 90 minutes. When the AC power is restored, it will
switch the system back to the normal mode and resume battery charging.
