HIGHWAY PRODUCTS HOTLINE® EPOXY TRAFFIC MARKING PAINTS WHITE LEAD FREE YELLOW CONVERTER TM8212 TM8215 TM8214 05/12 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Hotline® Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints are slow drying, two component, durable traffic marking paints intended for use as highway and auxiliary marking (stop bars, crosswalks, legends, etc.) materials. In special cases these products may also be used as markings for airports, factories and even parking lots. When used as a highway striping material these products will last 3 to 5 times longer than standard alkyd and waterborne traffic paint systems. Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints are 100% solid materials, which easily conform with current and pending VOC regulations. These products dry to no pickup in less than 40 minutes when properly applied at ambient temperatures of 70 deg F or greater. Longer cure rates will be experienced at lower temperatures. Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints should not be applied when air or surface temperatures fall below 50 deg F. APPLICATION CONDITIONS Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints have excellent adhesion to both concrete and bituminous surfaces. To ensure a proper bond, complete removal of any existing marking material is recommended, making sure to remove all latent dirt and debris prior to application. The presence of concrete sealers or effervescence on new concrete may also interfere with adhesion and should be removed. Repainting over existing Epoxy Traffic Marking Paint is allowed providing the existing material is still tightly adhered to the substrate. APPLICATION RATES The recommended application rate of Slow Cure Epoxy Traffic Marking Paint is 15 to 20 mils wet film thickness (approximately 80 to 110 sq.ft./gallon). APPLICATION The pigmented Epoxy Components – TM8212 White and TM8215 Lead-free Yellow are each applied at a two to one ratio (2:1) with the Converter – TM8214, using specially designed airless application equipment that is capable of application pressures of up to 3000 psi. For nighttime visibility, glass beads are embedded into the Epoxy Traffic Marking Paint film during the application process. The excellent glass bead adhesion characteristics of Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints allows for the use of any type of highway marking glass bead, but generally two glass bead application systems are recommended: Long line application equipment is readily available from several highway striping truck manufacturers. Special features of this type equipment include: - 20 to 24 #/gal standard M248, Type I or II beads AASHTO - 2:1 High pressure pumping system - 12 #/gal large gradation beads (~14-20 mesh), plus 12 #/gal standard beads - Closely controlled heating system capable of application temperatures of up to 160 deg F for each component. The double drop system is designed to provide some degree of wet night visibility. A silane coating on the beads may also be recommended. - Paint guns with self-purging mixing chambers. (Impingement type mixing guns are also being developed). THINNING AND CLEANUP Thinning of either the Epoxy component or the Converter is strictly prohibited. Walk behind application equipment is not yet commercially available, although modifications can be made to truck mounted equipment to allow for non-highway type applications such as legends and crosswalks. Un-reacted Converter and/or epoxy may be cleaned up with solvent, most typical paint solvents (eg. xylene) may be used for this purpose. Once reacted, Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints are unaffected by solvents. PACKAGING Standard packaging for the Epoxy Components – TM8212, TM82145 and the Converter Component – TM8214 is 55-gallon drums or 250-gallon IBC containers with a polyethylene liner. WHEN TO USE Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints are durable traffic paints designed for use in high traffic volume areas where extended service life is desirable. The relatively high initial installation cost is offset by the multi-year serviceability, making Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints one of the most economical traffic marking materials on the market today. Epoxy Traffic Marking Paints are also a 100% solids material making them ideal for applications requiring low VOC marking materials. PRECAUTIONS For industrial use only. SEE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS. READ AND FOLLOW WARNING LABELS ON PACKAGING. Painted surfaces can become slippery when wet. Traffic paints are not intended for use as floor paints. Do not use on pedestrian walkways or large surfaces such as ramps, floors, and stairs which could become slippery when wet.
