Since 2009, the APS Capital Master Plan has added:
•
Three (3) new high schools
•
One (1) new middle school
•
Five (5) new elementary schools
•
One (1) new alternative school
•
Six (6) complete rebuilds of old schools
•
Seven (7) of the new schools were built on the west side of the city where
Albuquerque has experienced the most growth.
•
The new George I. Sanchez PreK-8 school under constructed will open in
August 2015. This new school shall alleviate continued student growth within the southwest quadrant of the District.

The New CMP (2017/22) will continue to focus is on:
1. Energy Efficiency -New Construction Design continues to focus on energy efficiency a) The current District heating and cooling utility bill is $50K a day
2. Mitigation of Portables – replacement of portables with efficient , state of the art construction
3. Early Childhood Development Centers – to provide comprehensive early childhood education to students in the Albuquerque Public Schools
4. Special Education Intensive Support Hubs – to consolidate programs into one state of the art facility, with expert teams that will better and more efficiently serve the highest need Special Education students.
5. Renewal - A focus to renew the older schools
6. Innovative Schools – a move towards technology as a vehicle to provide cutting edge, 21 st Century instruction
