10-30kVA Parallel Configurations
● When the customer purchases the Parallel
Communications Kit (SUVTOPT009S) they also
are purchasing the service to configure the system
into a parallel configuration
● The UPS are powered off, and the kit is installed

The internal maintenance bypass switch is removed
The CANBUS communications box is installed
UPS is connected to the other UPS and to the MBP
UPS’s are bayed together, if desired
UPS’s are started up and placed into parallel
operation

Parallel Communication Box
● Must be installed into the Power
Module of each UPS in parallel
configurations of two-to-four UPSs
● Parallel capability is not/will not be
available for the SUVT Rack-mount

Routing the Communication Cables
● Parallel Installation — UPSs Apart
UPS 1
APC by Schneider Electric – David Derambakhsh – 5/15/2009
UPS 2
1.
Remove the bottom cable inlet plates on UPS 1 and
UPS 2
2.
Run the two Pbus cables to the slots on the left side
of the enclosure and down the inside panel
3.
From the lowest slot, fish out the cables from the side
panel, run the cable down through the cable inlet and
through the round hole in the bottom
4.
Run the Pbus cables to UPS 2 and use the reverse
of steps 2 and 3
5.
Run the Abus cable (from MBP) the same way as in
step 4 (bottom to top)
6.
Re-attach the cable inlet covers
7.
Fasten the cables with cable ties
Routing the Communication Cables
● Parallel Installation — Using Conduits (Top Entrance)
Remove 2 screws on the left side bracket and remove
the bracket (UPS 1)
Lift the top cover and move it slightly to the right to be

All MGE 3-phase UPS’s are now branded “APC by Schneider Electric”; their product names
are “MGE Galaxy”/”MGE EPS” etc. For simplicity, in this presentation, they are referred to
as “MGE UPS’s”

For all Galaxy/EPS UPS:
- Low battery
- Battery fault
- Normal AC out of
tolerance (Input bad
status)
- UPS overload
- UPS on battery
- UPS on bypass
And on top for Galaxy
7000:
- Charger fault
- UPS Temperature fault

MGE Galaxy/EPS vs. Symmetra/Smart-UPS
Device Support Differences
APC UPS’s uses an APC Web/SNMP Management Card, which
communicates the APC UPS protocol. MGE UPS’s use a legacy SNMP
card that only communicates the MGE protocol, thus resulting in the
following:
●No Mass Configuration for MGE UPS Systems
●No Mass Firmware updates for MGE UPS Systems
●Alarming for MGE UPS Systems limited to “critical alarms”
●Remote Monitoring Support for MGE UPS Systems is only available
through a direct connection to the devices (not using ISX Central as a
“Gateway”)
The roadmap moving forward is for all new MGE products, to be
designed with an APC Management Card and communicate on a
common protocol
