Ku-ring-gai’s Environment is
too valuable for Sydney to lose
Sydney’s Ku-ring-gai’s tall, magnificent remnant
forests, bushland escarpments and gardens all
contribute to making Sydney one of the most
beautiful cities in the world. As such, Ku-ring-gai
is too valuable to lose. However like many
environmentally sensitive areas across Sydney – it
is under threat.
FOKE was formed in 1994 to
promote
Ku-ring-gai’s cultural and
natural heritage.
The community has shown it wants more environmental protections, not less. Our unique natural
and built heritage needs to be protected by good
planning policy. However contemporary planning
appears to be captured by short-sighted, narrow,
financial interests. The economy cannot exist
without a healthy and resilient environment.
FOKE is a Ku-ring-gai
community group that defends
the environment by opposing
inappropriate and
unsympathetic
overdevelopment.
The flaws of Sydney’s contemporary planning
policies fail to consider the cumulative impacts of
multiple rezonings and their incremental damage.
The threats to Sydney’s environment are escalating with climate change and the recent 10/50
code which permit unprecedented tree removals.

Discovery and Rediscoveries
Discovery & Rediscoveries is the theme for
the 2016 National Trust Heritage Festival;
Discovery can encompass the experience of
discovering something for the first time or
rediscovering something that has been lost,
forgotten or concealed.
What is happening in Ku-ring-gai, is
representative of what is happening across Sydney.
Legislation needs to embrace the principles of
ecologically sustainable development (ESD) .
Currently the priority is on economic development. This is fuelling massive numbers of high
rise apartments for investment. Local communities are then left with its trail of environmental
destruction.
